i won't be at the game, and according to recent injury reports neither will beckham (at least not on the field)... a sold-out crowd of 50k might be leaving RFK disappointed.

If they'd confirm Beckham isn't playing, that sold out crowd wouldn't bother showing up anyway.

While it might be interesting to see a match there with that many people, I don't feel like paying $35 to sit in the 500 level section.

McClaren's going to be there to gauge the competitiveness of the league before recalling Becks to the national team.  Hmmmm.....

Beckham might make MLS debut Thursday
 Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- David Beckham dribbled, juggled and passed the ball during a Los Angeles Galaxy practice on a stiflingly hot afternoon at RFK Stadium, offering at least some hope that the 45,000 people who have bought tickets for Thursday's game will actually get to see him play.

"It's looking up," Beckham said Wednesday. "I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and hopefully I'll get out there playing soon."

Thursday would be a good time to start, given the sellout crowd that has been anticipating the Galaxy's game against D.C. United, but Beckham's tender left ankle will have the last word. The English star who elevated MLS' profile to new heights simply by signing a contract still hasn't played a MLS game, a frustration compounded by the fact that he knows the fans have been let down.

Kudos to any of you that stuck it out in that pouring rain to watch his debut.  I watched it in HD from the comfort of my couch and smackette was ooing and ahhing everytime he took his shirt off, but otherwise, there wasn't much else to talk about.  That Galaxy team is terrible.  If my Monday night team played like that, I'd quit.  It's going to take a lot more than Becks' brilliance to make that team any good.

Yeah that was rather uneventful.  He got one free kick in, which I suppose was a tad exciting being the stuff of legends and all but it's too bad his team sucks.  Emilio's goal and the DC win were more exciting, and Moreno had some good moves when he finally came in.

ESPN sucks at soccer too.  Those zipline above the field cameras might work for American football, but not for soccer, especially when they leave them on during shots.  Oh, and the "Beckham cam" was especially lame.

Looking forward to going back to my $25 day of match lower deck tickets after this hype dies down.

Why was he wearing a long sleeve shirt in 90+ degree weather? The other players had on short sleeves.
