Do you have the new Bottle Rockets album? Any good?

I've heard two songs on KEXP. One I quite liked, one not so good. Judging by the clips on Amazon, that's consistent with the album in general, a 50% hit rate.

I'm hoping for lots of songs off of their first three albums, which seems to be the case with the live in Germany album they put out in 2005.

The last time I saw the Bottle Rockets what at Metro Cafe a few years ago. Eric Brace of Last Train Home was there sipping Merlot. Which struck me as kind of funny at a BR show.

might check out the tuesday show, we'll see. could go either way on the bottle rockets, rather like bobby bare jr., but just saw him back in february. if the bottle rockets are popular enough to do two nites at iota, then i'm thinking it will be really crowded and that might be a deterrent.

You can stream it from their website, supposedly. Though I couldn't get it to work.

I saw this show in Pittsburgh last wed night.

 My opinion:

BB jr was very good. Don't miss him if you go.

The BRs were OK. I liked them better when they were a little less polished.

They play the new record straight thru - and did he ever push it. I think it's uneven & tame: lots would be right @ home on the local fm country station. Things picked up tho after that. Old stuff sounds much better & they had a couple good covers.

Seeing them really re-inforces how good DBT is (were). I hope they (DBT) never go down a similar grown-up recovery-like path.

I think you may have written my show review for me before I even see the show.

I was hoping for a few new songs mixed in with many old favorites. Would be nice if they played the new album last (so I could leave after the hits, hehehe).

 1. Do you know if they had their live album among the merchandise?

 1. Was Bobby Bare Jr with a full band, and if so, was it a trio lineup, or more than three in the band (him included)?

1) I don't recall what the BRs had. There was a great Bobby Bare Jr shirt tho: using PBR logo.

 2) Full band: him, woman on horns (!!), drums, bass/keys & crazy kamikazi guitar player. He started off solo & I thought: great - another cheapskate opener. Then the band trots out & ROCKS.

I liked him so much better & even more than when I saw him a few years ago. In my world - the playing order would have been reversed. Jr as headline.

Funny comment about the new BR songs. He actually said something similar. About the crowd being captive & if he played the older stuff early everyone would just leave. At least he's aware.

Or did you mean Bare Jr's live record?
 Still don't remember  :)

I meant the Bottle Rockets. They have a double live album from 2005 available for cheap on their website ($14?) that is all oldies (before Zoysia), with a couple of Neil covers mixed in (My My, Hey Hey and Cortez the Killer), that goes for $29 on Amazon. That's the show I'd like to see them play!

Bare Jr's lineup sounds awesome. When I first saw them, they were a five piece with a really cute chick (I think a different one than the one in band now) on keyboards and vocals. Second time I saw them was at the Bloodshot cookout at CMJ...had that lineup supplemented by a three piece horn section, which was fucking sweet.

You should definitely get there early to see all of BBjr. Will it sell out on a Monday night given that they are doing a two night stand? Kind of doubt it, but the fact that the 9:30, the Black Cat mainstage, and Jammin Java all lack shows tonight certainly won't hurt attendance.

Tidbit that may only interest me:

Bobby Jr takes his shoes off when he plays. Look for it.
