It is really good, better than other of his solo material I have heard I think.  But I did not really hear Greg Dulli, the song is good though.

This record is really growing on me - it languished in the stack for a few months & now it's in heavy rotation, ending the year in my best of.

Allmusic describes them as ??sounding a little bit like a tougher, more soulful Spoon.? Some songs maybe.

these guys popped up in a few end of year lists - what caught my eye were comparisons to Afghan Whigs - what would you say?

I think the Whigs comparison may have been what caused me to initially pick it up, but I don't really hear it. I'm not sure if I've ever heard another band that I thought sounded much like the Whigs. If anything, there are Constantines songs that sound like what you'd imagine Springsteen would have sounded like if he had chosen a punk rock profession.

I dunno, the way they pranced through the crowd and onto the stage at the Bowery Ballroom they reminded me of a fratboy/prettyboy combination. Ugh, didn't like those dudes live at all. Not enough melody going on either.

Well, I haven't seen them live, so I can't argue that point, but I initially felt the same way about melody though. It just took a few listens to sink in. Now I'm hooked.
