I missed The Go! Team at SXSW, though they were on my list to catch, but it was a melee and you could see only a fraction of your "to catch" list.  And I was still out of town for their DC gig.  I probably would have been 40% likely to check them out had I been in town.

Though I'm not disagreeing 100% with you, redsock.  I think generally I'm more 'mainstream' indie in terms of having a niche I am in to and tend to stick with, but I think across the board (no pun intended) there's less talk of new bands, etc., here.   You're one of many who post less and, hence, impart less info on what's going on.

Fair enough. Honestly though, it's not like my musical tastes are in left field either. I still have 'The Heart' programed on my XM radio, and I still listen to many of the same bands other folks do. I don't think Kosmo's likes are out in left field either, he just tends to find bands others don't. Lord knows Jaguar, Kurosawa and certainly Snailhook listen to a lot more off the beaten path than I. Friends of Guy Chadwick gave me a mix CD the other week, and I knew 6 of the 19 bands. But I really like a few of the others. I really try to have BigYawn cover stuff you don't read abou here or on DCist for this very reason. Obviously we overlap, and we cover plenty of the same stuff Pitchfork does or WOXY plays, but I honestly feel like no one pays attention. Hence why we sometimes have crappy turn outs at some of our shows. No one wants to take a chance on new stuff. And it's not like in this day and age you can't find a handful of mp3s of a band before you go out to see them. Take Love is All for example. They will be playing big shows here in DC within the year. It was like pulling teeth to get folks to come see them at DC9 last Fall.

The bottom line is, I'm not preaching anything, I don't care what people are listening to as long as they are listenting to something. But my comments just came from the fact no one mentioned a band like the Go! Team, who are pretty damn mainstream when push comes to shove. But there will be 100 posts about Stellastarr*, who are about as orignal as toast. It's fine if you like them, not passing any judgement, but for me, the board has turned too benign, and people who post about bands doing something different, myself included, get no reaction. So I just kinda stopped, and I know others have too. And it did not use to be this way.

Anyway, sorry for coming off as some self-rightous prick, not my intention. Hey, I really like the Editors!

So none of you danced and had a damn good time like the other 96% of the people at the BC last night?
Woof.

I thought it was a fantastic show last night. I was right in front of the stage dancing with the rest of the crazies. Incredibly fun. I liked both of the other bands, too.

Here are some pictures from last night:

Random, I am alerting the RIAA of your illegality and poor attitude.  I will probably change my mind if you give me a review of Powder Burns.

I just heard the Go Team for the very first time on XM this morning.  It reminds me of when David had the meeting about Spinal Tap's new visual direction:

:)

Still don't like "Forty Dollars," which was featured on the TS MySpace page a couple of weeks back. "Bonnie Brae" is OK...but in some ways, it feels as if Dulli is trying to write another "Faded," which I doubt will happen.

I'm also still trying to figure out what the hell a "Hooo-ride" is.   :o

i hope this was a joke ... i haven't heard a more derivative band this year than Editors ... and The Go! Team is about as mainstream indie as it gets, weren't they nominated for a mercury prize??  it's not like they're some avant-garde collective that people here are missing on

i absolutely love their album, it's been in the cd changer for months, i heard from a friend who saw them in NYC that it wasn't a great show and i didn't get on the ticket front before it sold out

I LOVE the Editors after seeing them down in Texas.  Can't recommend them more - I don't think its derivative or uninteresting.

I also saw the Go! Team.  And frankly, I thought they were incredibly sloppy.  High energy, a lot of fun...but not tight at all.  Their loops often didn't match what the band was doing, and the two drummers seemed to be out of sync a fair amount of the time.

i enjoy their music, they just sound like every other 00s post-punk revival group (interpol in particular) ... and in the context of redsock's emotional plea for more musical diversity on the board, it smacked of sarcasm ... that is all =)

The show was so good.  I love when a band gets the entire Black Cat on their feet.  I'll definitely see them again next time they come to town.

It wasn't really a plea for musical diversity, more just a wake up call that there is more out there is you feel moved to listen to it.

I actually really like "Munich," the rest of the album is just ok. But sure, it is wildly derivative, though there isn't much that isn't at this point. Some sarcasm, a little truth. Sounds like every conversation I've ever had.
