Stella (not starr)
« on: October 01, 2003, 07:30:00 pm »
So I'm heading up to NY this weekend, and then on to Vassar, where my best bud is opening with his Improv group for Stella (Michael Ian Black, David Wain and Michael Showalter).  Very excited, as I'm a huge fan of Wet Hot American Summer and The State.  Not sure what to expect from the show...has anybody seen Stella live before?

Vassar?!?  That's my alma mater, and it's absolutely beautiful.  When you get back, I want to know what building the show was in, where you stayed, how you liked the campus.

So cool.  The Hudson Valley in October is SICK fantastic.

Plus, I'd love to hear about the show.
 Have FUN.

I caught Stella live earlier this year at the Ottobar.  HILARIOUS!  Make sure you pick up the DVD of their short skits if they're selling it.  It's amazing.  In fact, I just bought tickets to see their holiday show at Fez in NYC last night.  Should be great.  Have a great time...it should be funny as all hell.

Oh man...I wasn't expecting such an excellent response...definitely even more excited than before (if that's possible).

And Bags...the only other time I was at Vassar, it was a freezing weekend in the dead of winter...not the Hudson valley's best season.  So yet another plus.  My friend lives in that little dorm off in the corner...I'll check the name when I'm there.  And I think the show is in ACDC.

OK, talk to you all on Tuesday.

P.S.  Paige, even I adore and want to marry Michael Ian Black.

If it's off all by itself, it's Cushing.  I was in Josslyn for 3 years, then lived in Main (you know, to be near the Mug once I was 21).  I'm surprised the show's in ACDC, I'd think there'd be all kinds of spaces for it.

Have fun and let us know how it goes!

Mmmm yes, a fine time was had by all.  The gentlemen in Stella were painful-spleen funny.  A highlight: during the middle of the show, some kids egged the windows behind the stage. Michael Ian Black charges into the audience, shouting "Get 'em!  Get 'em!  It's just us against the townies!"

Michael Ian Black (i like to call him Roundy) is one of the funniest people EVER.
Some of my favorite lines from "I love the 70s":

-"Patty hearst was 'kidnapped,' she was 'brainwashed,'....she was Bored. She was a bored little rich girl"

-"'BJ and Bear' - there was a monkey, named Bear. It put a whole new spin on the Trucker-Monkey Genre."

Yup.  He has a single now, as he's a responsible, sophomore student somethingorother...basically, he's supposed to tell the freshman what not to do, and hide the beer when they knock.  ha.
