Interesting article, ggw.  I love this (but don't know if I'm into reading the whole book)...

"Macefield admits from the outset that he is no journalist, and occasionally In Search of the La's resembles the sort of book that Rob Gordon, hero of Nick Hornby's High Fidelity, would write. "

I love, love the Las album -- it's a classic, even though Mavers hates it.  I got it when it first came out -- I  had broken my ankle and a friend brought it by to cheer me up.

Thanks for this story ggw!  I'll have to get the book next week.  I remember seeing them at the WHFS Festival in 1991.  All four of the band members jumped the security fence around the stage area to come out and play on the swing set in the park.  Classic!!!!

The La's reuniting?

 THE LA'S BROADCAST?

THE LA'S are rumoured to be reforming this year, with the possibility of a new album and live shows.

Over the last week, rumours in the bandâ??s hometown of Liverpool are that founder members Lee Mavers and John Power had been seen out together and are collaborating again.

One fan, emailing NME.COM wrote: "Met them at the The Zutons gig at Liverpool Uni the other day, sound fellas. Lee said theyâ??re best mates again, drinking and going out together. Interestingly, Lee said they were working together on new material and to look forward to gigs within the next few months and material within the next year or so!"

A source close to the band has since confirmed that the pair are working together again, but said there are currently no definite plans. It is not clear whether the other members of the band are involved.

The La's released their debut album in 1990 and it was instantly declared a classic, spawning the single â??There She Goesâ??. The fact that it was never followed up has only added to its legend. After the band split, bassist John Power went on to enjoy success in his own right with Cast, while Mavers has remained a virtual recluse.
