The Doors 21st Century
« on: December 08, 2003, 09:32:00 am »
Not sure this has been mentioned on here yet, but The Doors will be ringing in the new year with a new style at the New Year's Eve show at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.

The group, featuring former Doors Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, are now called The Doors 21st Century, and are fronted by The Cult singer Ian Astbury.

So this must be the Stewart Copeland-free version, yes?

Over the weekend I think i heard this new Doors band on the radio.  They were playing People are Strange and man did it sound...we'll it sounded like a watered down uplugged Doors fronted by Ian Asbury trying his damnedest to sound like Jim Morrison (rip).  He's probably getting a pretty good laugh over this from beyond the grave...

Terrible that this is taking place, imo.  Can't these guys find anything better to do?

You sure it wasn't the Echo & The Bunnymen cover?

Could have been I suppose...I didn't know that even existed.....but it was on 94.7 which is classic rock and I doubt they'd be playing echo...but who knows.

What album did Echo release this on?  I wanna hear it.

Ok I found a snippet of the Echo version on line and DEFINATELY not the version I heard.

Now that that's out of the way I can get back to not working...

Does that mean the new doors have recorded new material? What a horrible thought.

OK OK, just my learning disability flaring up a bit.

It sounded like a live performance, at least the 20 seconds I heard before I changed stations, rather than a new studio effort.

As soon as I hear Astburys voice I think of Lil' Devil. I cannot imagine him singing anything other than cult songs.
