How does The Electric Factory compare to the 9:30?  How much does the 9:30 actually hold?

electric factory is a huge barn. . .that holds a few thousand people.  and, being philly, has funny rules about drinking.  i saw the flaming lips there, and to drink, you had to stay in a roped off section near the bar, which was not really close to the stage.  930 holds well less than a thousand, i believe, but ggw or someone else can give out that info.

I thought 9:30 held 1200.

Electric Factory is bigger and easier to get near the stage. (since its bigger!) Not being able to drink and watch the show is wikked lame, but it keeps the old people who just HATE it when you bump into them even once on accident, upstairs.

I go to Electric Factory when acts dont come to DC though.

You can see the show just fine from the upstairs and drink at the same time.

Double Bonus:  Electric Factory has cocktail waitresses upstairs.

Where'd you get that number from? Unless by them blocking off the bathrooms on that back stairwell to really make THAT big of a difference. The Cat can hold over 600 upstairs and I'm sure that's legally. When it was the Cage (and the bathrooms were available back there) we had shows of 450-500 in there several times.

According to Morrissey-solo.com, the capacity of the Electric Factory is 3,500.

There is a picture of Mankie on that site:

you're right. it's about 600. The numbers are probably outdated - I pulled from an old post. Sorry for confusion!

We've been through this before. It was determined that those figures are for the old Black Cat.

I would pick the 9:30 over the Electric Factory for any show.  The Electric Factory is bigger yet has always seemed more crowded - especially the bar sections.  The sound is nowhere as good - its a big warehouse.  You can usually drink upstairs and down - Ive been there a bunch and I've only seen the downstairs closed down once or twice.  But either way it can be a pain seeing the stage from the drinking areas if its a packed show.  I dont think I've ever had a problem finding a decent place to watch the stage at 9:30, even at sold out shows.

I would say the Electric Factory is crap compared to the 930 and it holds around 3000.  Somewhat comparable to the big room of the Capitol Ballroom (Nation) prior to its renovation but a little wider and maybe a little deeper.
