then you saw a bland show with semi-soft spots of chuckle from center row b.  their humour now reflects a hacky, monty python rip that i never saw before.  mr. thompson with his jesus and muhammad jabs were the show stealers.

You DO KNOW that in one sentence you are viciously attacking two of the most divine sacred cows of the 9:30 club message board?  And although I agree 100% with your assessment, prepare to be mercilessly vilified for your opinions.  The small world people will not stand for this.

Sweetcell, chaz, vansmack, 49 year-old virgin, slappy, douchebag, bearman, cooter, etc.  You know the drill.  Bring the pain.

P.S.  For some people, a "Kids in the Hall" reunion is the single most exciting news they hear in months.  Which is sort of sad, really.

wrong.  i can believe that you didn't like the show, but you can't say the whole place wasn't laughing it up.  maybe you're mistaking the lack of non-stop belly laughs for the i-can't-believe-they-said-that moments (previously described).  KITH are indeed purveyors of absurd humor in the vein of monty python but they do so in their own style.  the kids had the sold-out warner on its feet.

but you are correct that buddy cole was arguably one of the highlight of the show.  one of many highlights   :)

seriously?  one person (walkonby at that) didn't like/get the show, and you're convinced?

I was in the front loge box...I had a great time.  Thomas is the king, but I enjoy all the boys.

Routine Routines: Kids in the Hall

this guy didn't seem to like it too much. i liked the kids a lot back in the day but whenever i catch an episode now i rarely find myself laughing at all. unless it's the "slipped my mind" sketch. i liked "mr. show" a whole lot more and when that reunion tour (or whatever) came to the warner theatre it was just ok, so passing on this wasn't too tough a decision.

and walkonby at that?  you made brian happy, sweetcell, with your rain of mercilessly vilified scathe.

i loved kids in the hall back in the day as well, and i don't know what i was expecting with this show.  they just seemed tired and trying to hard for the effects of humour.  sort of like my attempts to spell words with an extra u.  this coming from someone who finds this stuff funny: (yes, sfw)

who the hell is Thomas is what im still trying to figure out? unless youre just referring to someone else entirely, but i know theres no thomas in the kids.

btw - any sign of hecubus? and i love their dark, twisted humour. the hitler jokes were priceless (and yes im jewish - before i hear some tired rant) and i loved the time machine for his b-day BJ. hehehe. actually i loved every minute of it, who am i kidding.

I saw them at DAR last time and it was a blast.  I watched the two new sketches and didn't think they were very funny.

Woops, I meant Thompson, as in Scott Thompson.  Sorry, my bad....trying even more than usual to peruse the board while doing actual work.

I wasn't a great fan of the tv show (sketch television doesn't usually grab me), but I enjoy the live shows.  Kinda like Monty Python -- I LOVE the movies, and "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" is my favorite, but the show made me kinda crazy 80% of the time.  It's me, I'm a bit weird, obviously...

 * * * *
Scott Thompson (born June 12, 1959) is a Canadian television comedian, best known for his time as a member of the comedy troupe Kids in the Hall.

Thompson was born in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, and grew up in Brampton, Ontario. He is the oldest of the five boys. He attended Brampton Centennial Secondary School and was a student there at the time of the 1975 shooting massacre.[1] He enrolled in York University but in his third year was asked to leave for being 'disruptive'. He joined the comedy troupe The Love Cats and while performing with them met Mark McKinney. In 1984 he became a member of The Kids in the Hall. That troupe's series aired starting 1989 on the CBC in Canada and on HBO in the United States, but moved to CBS for the fourth and fifth seasons.

Openly gay, he became best-known on the show for his monologues as the effeminate Buddy Cole, as well as his appearances as Queen Elizabeth II. He also acted regularly on The Larry Sanders Show and made numerous guest appearances on other television series including Politically Incorrect, The Late Show, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and Train 48. Scott Thompson was also the host of a reality television program in Canada called "My Fabulous Gay Wedding". Thompson defended Mordecai Richler's novel Cocksure in Canada Reads 2006.
