This tour looks like every single other big shed tour.  So while they claim to be "concerned" about their impact, they have not done anything about it.  Not even the somethings they said they were going to do.

dude, it was one article that mentioned that. Its not like Radiohead said they were on some earth saving crusade.  let it go.  you dont like them, we all get it!

and believe me, if they really were "concerned" they wouldnt tour, and then everyone would bitch cause they didnt.  so there

point is, unless he came out and shook everyones hand in the place, people complain.

"To everyone who made it, and put up with the torrents on the lawn, and came early to catch the Liars and our show, thank you so much for braving the deluge. I hope you heard what you came for, the music and lights diverting you from the wet. We got out of there around three am, and the pic shows Jonny waiting in the loading bay whilst the water streams across the tarmac. We've had floods at Bull Creek, lightning at the RFK stadium, so there must be some kind of Biblical fix between us and DC. Frogs next time?"

Actually, they did say it.

Radiohead expressly commissioned an environmental foundation (Best Foot Forward) to study their 2003 and 2006 tours to find ways to reduce their carbon footprint.  The main finding of the study (which the band published) was that amphitheatre tours were hardest on the environment.  It also found that venues further away from city centers were particularly bad.  Note that everything was studied on a per fan basis, so the results are not skewed by the relative size difference between theatres and amphitheatres.

The study also said that the band could reduce its impact by moving themselves and their gear by train.  I haven't seen anything indicating that they followed that recommendation any more than they followed the others.

I can't wait to complain about the s.f show and how vansmack's roof provided no cover from the sun and wind, the crappy acoustics, and the terrible beverage offerings.  not to mention how there's no parking near his house. . .what am i expected to do, walk?

and do you know why they are doing an ampitheatre tour anyway?

i am assuming they must have told you since you are so sure its all about greed.  your disdain for this band is showing a real ugly side of your personality.

i just cant believe Radiohead's not using the US's exceptional rail system to transport its gear.  How many times do you think the shows would be cancelled cause their gear hadnt arrived in time.  please.

i suppose it would have been better off if Radiohead had never even cared for a second about being green? like every other band?

I'm never one to jump to the quick defense of ggw. And he's very capable of defending himself. But...

What is the ugly side of his personality that he is revealing? I don't get it. He simply seems to be questioning a case of corporate dishonesty and (possible) greed, in this case Radiohead being the corporation.

traffic was horrendous.  i don't think it was worse than what i've heard about last night or than what we experienced in 2001, though.

this is boring me already but i'll continue since i cant to do much work on this rainy day.

Radiohead said they were concerned about their carbon footprint while touring. they decided to find ways to cut down the footprint.  In the end when they went to tour, they used few or none of these carbon cutting suggestions.

How is greed or lying involved?

Is he saying that this is a green friendly tour and its not? What exactly are they being dishonest about?  I dont get that part.

As for greed, are we assuming the Nissan choice was solely for being the biggest venue?

And what real basis do we have for that anyway?

Would they be less greedy if they played 930 and most of their fans couldnt get tickets?

perhaps, but then they'd just be pretentious assholes who didnt care about their fans actually getting to see them live.

I dont get greed or dishonesty out of this. Do you think they talked about this green tour to boost ticket sales? what were they gaining other that maybe some "earth cred" but talking the talk but never actually walking the walk?
