Hey folks,
Just wanted to give a shout out about Friday's "We Fought the Big One," our monthly celebration of old-school, underground post-punk (think Wire, Gang of Four, Magazine, Swell Maps), wall-of-sound, shoegazey indie (MBV, Seefeel, Ulrich Schnauss, etc.) and other off-kilter underground goodness (not sure what the music of Ike Yard qualifies as!) Of course, we have a major sweet tooth for the U.K. scene, but we also spin records from France, Germany, Japan and New Zealand and Australia.
If the term "post-punk" elicits band names such as Franz Ferdinand, The Killers or The Bravery to you, then let me just say that these bands sound very little like the groups that defined the original post-punk scene. There was so much great innovative music being made between 1978-1984---it never ceases to amaze me! That's why these bands are still influential. Of course, most of today's bands are watering down the original post-punk sound to appeal to as many people as possible, but that's another discussion for another time...
If you are looking for a dj night with an international slant, that's a little bit different, (and you enjoy Belgian beer)...
