What the entry needs is a picture of the "No Illegal Drugs" sign in it....

The screen name of the user making the last edit for this entry reveals much... Phishsy42

Anyone know the proper way to change info on wikipedia? Can this edit be challenged?

I just found another wiki page trying to get to the one above.

"The original venue was also noted for its distinctive odor. Hence, the old club's popular nick-name: "The Dirty 30". At one point, one of the staff members led an odor specialist around the building. He determined that the unique smell to be resultant of a combination of tobacco, sweat, cleaner, and rat urine -- a distinct smell that anyone who frequented the club will never forget."

kosmo: you can just go in and edit it.  i believe you can also file a complaint to the moderator/owner, might result in that person having their edits moderated before being posted.

The thing about the old 9:30 is that the smell stuck to you when you left. It made you feel like Pigpen from Peanuts. I remember in college you could always tell when someone had been to the 9:30 not by the stamp on their hand but by their smell. It was really something.

mostly but the noteworthy section wasn't on that page. That odor quote was important enough to go on both though.

Somebody was already bolder than I  :D  Wonder if  it will spark a wiki editing war...  Someone should print that statement out and hang it 9:30 office.

probably.  but he's not talking about me.  my ears aren't big enough to wear a hockey puck.  must be someone else.

elaborate system?  hardly.  he makes it sound like we've got maps and gps tracking devices and a command center.  what probably happened: "hey, that guy down there is smoking weed."  "ok, i'll go get him."

this part is true, I was the lucky staff person who escorted the smell specialist on a tour of the building, so he could experience and evaluate all the various bad smells the club had in different areas. The City Paper had a column on DC mysteries for a while, and they did one on "Just What IS That Smell at the 9:30 Club?". They arranged for an expert from the Institute for Taste and Smell to evaluate the situation. He said it was a combo of all the things listed above, and that the reason it was so pungent and stuck to hair and clothes was caused by free radicals released by our cleaning solution, which act like the sticky side of velcro, bonding with the smell in the air inside the club and then attaching to clubgoers. There are many things I miss about the F St location, but the smell isn't one of 'em.

I still know that smell.  I can recall it exactly.  Man oh man.  I'd heard that after the club moved, the smell was attributed to rotting lines for the beer taps in the back bar.  Any truth to that?!  It HAD to be more than smoke, sweat, tobacco, etc.  It was downright the smell of puke in that back bar sometimes...even when the night was just starting.

Crazy thing is I miss it (if the Atlantic Building had gone condo, I was willing to do about anything to get a place in there.  The possibility of 930 F Street, NW as my ADDRESS -- imagine!!!).
