Led Zeppelin and Manic Street Preachers would be the only two bands I can think of at the moment (or if Richard Branson can convince Prince to play an all hard rock set) that would have me paying $100 to see an all day festival in the heat at a horse track.

I sort of LIKE the Manic Street Preachers but MAN, was "Send Away The Tigers" a disappointment!  But, really, my expectations weren't high at all after "Lifeblood."  And they failed to meet even those.  Nicky Wire used to be one of the coolest people in rock.  Now he's just kind of sad and desperate.  He'll say whatever it takes to be mock controversial.  He slagged off The Arcade Fire.  He loves Rush.  That's worse than loving the Beatles.  It's just sad now.  Maybe Richey had the right idea.  Stay Beautiful.

I have no idea about Nicky's media antics but I heard from a couple people that their recent shows in the UK were great.  Of course I'd prefer seeing them at the 9:30 Club but I don't know if they have enough popularity stateside to pull off a full US tour; for some reason a one-off at a festival seems more probable to me.

Don't need a comedy stage but 45 minutes or so of Eddie Izzard on the mainstage would suit nicely.

Oh, they're great live.  I saw them blow Oasis off the stage twice (which, granted wasn't that hard to do) AND I'm definitely not one of those "they should go back to the makeup and The Holy Bible/Generation Terrorists era" people.

It just seems like they're stuck in a rut.  There seems to only be a few songs on each album that I like.  Although, I liked "The Love of Richard Nixon" and "Empty Souls."  Maybe I'm too hard on them.  Maybe "Lifeblood" wasn't that bad after all.

My wishlist-

Put on the festival during the absolute hottest part of the year again and not a single person shows up.

comedians in between sets on the main stage would be great. (similar to the cake show @ D.A.R)

PLEASE bring the Manics (of course I'd prefer the club rather than a festival, but beggars can't be choosers).  "Lifeblood" was meh, but I rather enjoy "Send Away the Tigers".

I'd love to cross off another line on my "bands to see before I die" list.

i know your post was partly tongue in cheek, but i think there is a lot of truth in it.   here's a few acts i would suggest along those lines:

 MANU CHAO
 GENTLEMAN
 MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD
 CYPRESS HILL
 PORTISHEAD
 BURNING SPEAR
 BJORK
 PONCHO SANCHEZ
 SOJA
 STEEL PULSE
 ORISHAS
 CALLE 13
 CHUCK BROWN
 DAMIAN MARLEY

 hope that helps!!
