Les is an American treasure. I had the privilege of interviewing him for a PBS documentary that came out last year called "Les Paul: Chasing Sound." The filmmakers did a great job telling Les's story, in particular his crucial inventions in sound on sound and multi-track recording. Les tends to get a lot of credit for the electric guitar, but he's really more the greatest popularizer of the electric guitar. His real, lasting impact was in sound recording. The recordings he made in his bathroom and garage in the late 40's still sound heavenly. I'd recommend the doc to anyone who wants to know more about Les--who is simply one of the funniest and sharpest people I've ever met--the music industry, guitars, entertainment industry, you name it.
