is this what ggw stands for?

DC - Mount Vernon is 16 miles each way.

the most awesomest bike ride, in my opinion, is a loop where you take the Capital Crescent Trail from Georgetown, up into Maryland, and then across Bethesda and Chevy Chase to Rock Creek Park, and down Beach Drive back into the City.  It's about 22 miles, but it's easy to extend it further.

TV actor Don Johnson had written a number of songs with "The Allman Brothers" - including "Crazy Love" and "Can't Take It With you."

Odds are, I'll be working in Bethesda that day in a building literally right next to that trail. If you ride that trail, maybe I could take a break and meet up with you for a drink, lunch, whatever.

Speaking of bikes...  My kids did well this last xmas with new bikes.  I got one of each of these through a friend who owns a bicycle business for $200 total including shipping, assembly, etc.

  HONDA HR265FS
 HONDA Carve BMX

I guess they did well huh?

Was the business Wal-Mart?

If you like your kids and they like their bikes, next time you might want to think about getting them half way decent bikes.

nope.  huffy has always been the target/walmart/kmart brand-- they were never bike shop quality bikes.

I had a Huffy when I was a kid. It did me fine.

Many families don't have the money to spend $300+ on a child's bike, though maybe they would if they drank beer from a can.

Not to disagree, but:

The 1973 Scout racer bike looks way more functional and usefull than the current "dual suspension wonderbikes" that wal-mart now sells. I dont think back then they were engineered quite so brutally to a price point. I bet a huffy in the 70's was the same price in dollars as one today, if not more.....

Huffy bikes have always sucked... maybe less than they do now.  They're built of cast iron and they weigh a freakin' ton.

The thing about buying someone a crappy-ass bike -it can make the difference between someone learning to love biking and hating it.  So it's worth a little extra dough, and you really don't need to spend a fortune.

The same goes for guitars by the way...

You can get a quality kids bike for way less than $300.  But when you pay $200 for two bikes, one being a "full suspension mtb", and think your kids made out good, you are mistaken.  That full suspension bike is dangerous simply because it's designed to look like a bike that can safely take abuse but would crumble if ridden off of anything higher than a curb.  Plus those crap bikes are usually poorly assembled which makes them even more dangerous.

all kids should have a bike, no matter what the price you pay for it. Personally I say the cheaper the better to begin with. If the've never ridden a Giant/Trek/Gary Fisher or whatever name designer brand you want to throw in there....how will they know if their bike sucks or not? If they enjoy riding, as every kid should, then they can get a better bike next time. If the bike ends up collecting spiders in the garage then you haven't wasted a fortune, because we all know the resale value of bikes is awful.

*this is were, if my dad was still alive, he'd be telling us how he had to go to the scrap heap and find bits to build his own first bike when he was a kid.*

I won a Huffy one time.....it was okay until I bought my Trek 850, then realized what a total piece of shit my Huffy was.
