Hotel Help?
« on: December 29, 2004, 02:30:00 pm »
I know there aren't any hotels really close to the Club but that there are a TON of hotels fairly close, but I was hoping those of you more familiar with D.C. might be able to make a recommendation or two.

I'm meeting a friend at the show and then he has to fly out of National (Can't. call. it. Reagan.) early the next morning.  So here's my specific dilemma:  I'll want to park at the hotel in the afternoon so we can cab it to the hotel after the show.  No drinking and driving for me.  Then, need easy access to DCA in the morning since we'll only get about 3 hours sleep.  I know, I'm asking for too much.  But, thought I'd give it a try to see if any of you had any suggestions.  Thanks.

While there are plenty of hotels downtown that will allow you to jump on the Metro's Blue or Yellow lines to DCA, it would be more helpful to know what price range you're looking at for a hotel room.

Helix, Rouge, or Topaz are all great hotels (I prefer Helix myself) that are within 4 blocks of a metro station (for getting to the airport) and within about 2 miles of 930.  They're also rather nice.

Looking for relatively inexpensive since we will be in the room for about 4 hours total.  I know D.C. is pricey but I don't need amenities or other features that I would normally love if we could spend more time.

And we'll be driving, no Metro, since we're both from way out of town.

 Thanks!

Can you give a specific price range? "Relatively inexpensive" is hard to gauge since I have no idea what you consider inexpensive. Are you looking for a place under $150 a night?

Also, when are you coming to town? That will likely impact the price you pay.

You're looking for a hotel room for New Year's Day on December 29?  <img src="http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons6/24.gif" alt=" - " />

But seriously, try this page on Expedia. It looks like the Jurys Hotel in Dupont Circle has rooms available that night for $81.

i would use priceline. dc should have some decent rates since a lot of dc folks go out of town for the holiday. dc really isn't a hot bed for new years. fun stuff to do, but not a big outside the metropolitan area crowd drawer.

The only concern with using Priceline is you have no choice on the hotel chosen so make sure you select the right areas. If you go this route, from the options listed, check off:

Convention Ctr - Capitol Hill area
 Dupont Circle - Woodley Park
 White House - Downtown

Yea, crazy to leave it to the last minute but we weren't sure we could pull it off.

 Thanks much for the help.

Might wanna email the Mayor's office.  :D
You could try Alexandria or near the Pentagon since the metro and airport are close-by. Might be pricier though. Most people are outta town, so you should find something. Why sleep?  ;)

The only problem would be the not-so-cheap cab fare from the 9:30 to that area.

if you are looking for a hotel by the hour, you might wanna try the Days Inn Gateway on NY Ave.

Oh, that's naughty.  But seriously, it's a "friend" I don't get to see very often, since we live on opposite coasts, so we're trying to maximize the time together instead of wasting time driving/Metro-ing all over the place.

I've found the Holiday Inn in Crystal City for $85, which is a great rate and offers a shuttle to the airport.  Also, the Red Roof near the White House for $90.00. I guess I'll just deal with the cab fare to 9:30, it'll be worth it
