Avril Lavigne maybe.  Although I think her success is more due to her shrewdness in marketing than in total luck.

 Kelly Osbourne is a pretty obvious answer.  Even ignoring that she's an Osbourne, no label would touch her with a ten-foot pole if she didn't have the reality show to get known from.

 Kelly Osbourne is talentless, but I don't list her because I don't think musically she's achieved any fame or 'sweetness' -- she's a simple celebrity for being a celebrity.
