Temperature/smoke?

I went to two shows this week.  Gavin DeGraw was hot and smoky, but Howie Day was cool and not hazy at all.  But they were both sold out!  Any reason for this?

The evening of Gavin we had an hvac malfunction and couldn't turn off the heat.
