Nobody was eliminated in week 7 so I didn't update last week.

In the big money pool, Seth, GGW and Phibes all won again.

Eliminated in Week 8

baby's first football pool* (venerable)

Picks

5 - San Diego
1 - Chicago
1 - Arizona

So it's a showdown in the $100 pool between me and Midget Porn Star (serpent boy).  6 people left fighting it out in the $5 pool.

Venerable left me alone with his child yesterday so that I would feel badly about his baby losing her first gambling pool, but mom insists on raising her a Cubs fan so I figure she should get used to losing.  However, comdedic gems all around if if you could have seen Mrs Venerable give him the what for for picking the Cardinals over her preferred Bears.  I really should have filmed it for the group...

We're getting down to the end now, so if you haven't paid yet, you should do so.  Instructions on the yahoo site.

After being knocked out in the 1st week the first few years, making it to week 6 is like running a marathon. I barely survived week 5 with my Dallas pick (thanks Miles Austin). I wasn't that comfortable with the pick to begin with, but I'd already used up what I felt were my "sure thing" match ups earlier in the season. Now it's all gambling and prayers from here on out.

And thus the marathon comes to an end for Shadrach.....

In the big-big money pool, Seth, GGW and Phibes all won again.

Eliminated in Week 9

shadrach

Picks

5 - Atlanta
1 - Green Bay

5 people left fighting it out in the $5 pool, with two in the $100 pool.

Interstingly enough, shadrach had not yet used Atlanta and bucked the trend of nearly 50% of all pool participants (and 83% of 9:30 particiapnts) and went with Green Bay.  That usually ends with him either winning it all or being eliminated - there rarely is a solo pick like that that ends up with another week to survive.

Not only did Green Bay let me down, but they made the bookies very happy. Yuck.

I can't recall if I've paid or not?

This is actually a mistake (it happens when people use multiple names across message boards).  The head-to-head matchup is between me and Dr. Phibes, who is having quite the run this year.  And yes, I said that hoping that the gambling gods will notice and jinx him this week.

My apologies.

You did sir, though I can't recall if I actually cashed the check, but I'm pretty sure I did.

You had a good run this year.

There's a $5 pool, a $100 pool, and a $1000 big-spender pool (the Seth, GGW, Phibes three-way).

And then there were three...

I'd like to thank the Raiders, who once again upset a team from the Eastern time zone, tired from the flight to Oakland and worried about getting tetanus from the fans.

Remember to get those picks in early for Green Bay over Detroit, or Dallas over Oakland -- our two network broadcast Thanksgiving games.  Of course, where I'll be on Thursday, there's no NFL Network, and thus no way to see the only interesting game, Giants vs Denver.
