So while I'm watching our daughter for 3+ hours tomorrow while my wife is out for her 18 mile run, I'll also be researching ceiling repair online.

If you sprang for cable not only would your wife be happier and more likely to gratify you, but you would also get the DIY channel and be able to do some fix-up work.
