I think Seth should let all local bands swim in that secret swimming pool for one hour a year like they let the staff in Caddyshack. It just might fix everything.

I mean there are local bands all the time. One of my favorites is Outer Body Llama and I have announced their shows here like 10 times and not once has anybody expressed interest by or expressed anything  actually. They usually play three hour shows of original material with no cover and ten people show up.

If you want local bands you got to go see them. Just whining about the local scene sucking doesn’t do anything.

Maybe we need a local bands thread where people hype up local band shows?

I think when new order played last they shared a picture of themselves at the pool so wasn’t a secret to me….

Not really interested in the New Order pool pics, but do you think Maggie Rogers, Laufey, or Janelle Monae will be sharing their pool pics?

I think it’s very unusual for anybody to share pool pics. In the case of new order I think it was just a pic of the pool.

Well it’s secret to most people. You obvious are a man who is “in the know.”

new order are probably the kind of guys that wear black jeans to the beach and if they touch water, most likely swim in t shirts.

It’s just unfair to say Atlantis doesn’t have local acts playing. Maybe you are just not paying attention. This just popped up on my facebook

And I will add that anything Ben Tufts is doing you should pay attention….if you really want to support local music and it’s not just lip service

I dunno, I think that's the exception, can't say I've dug deep on everyone, but I'd say less that 5% of openers are local
although it's typical for openers at small clubs to be local, that's nothing new

Ok fine… I opened Facebook and stumbled on an exception. What are the odds? Apparently 5%.

This charge which boils down to IMP prioritizing the bottom line over the community goes back decades…I remember hanging out with you at the black cat and hearing grousing about the 930 mixed in with some good old fashioned anti-semitism. That was close to 30 years ago. It’s all bunk. There are so many things IMP does for DC but you never hear about them. Success engenders jealousy. Heck even our friends Outer Body Llama got booked by IMP before they got banned cause the crowd got a bit crazy.

I don’t see the old booking contact info on the 930 site. I will say that….i guess one could email human@930.com or call

Like if you are a local band hoping to play an IMP venue where do you go but I know two recent ish cases of local acts that played 930 …Sketchy Pete (DJ, was there) and I think a guy I knows local band played Atlantis…

Of course we saw Ex Hex at 930.

I would agree if you are just starting probably Atlantis ain’t going to work but as I posted yesterday I think there was a showcase for young acts at 932

Did not have “out-of-left-field antisemitism allegations” on my 930.com bingo card for this week.

Hey dude, it happened…. I heard it and it made an impression on me.

Not sure pretending it’s not there is a great play…not sure what makes it out of left field …it’s not uncommon for people to tie in maximizing profit as a bad thing  with Jews wherever they can… goes back at least 500 years
