lobsters are red
« on: February 25, 2010, 12:57:44 pm »
so my folks are old timey in an old timey kinda way.  they like the simple things like eating out all the time and watching any incarnation of csi or law n order.  so the other night we all decide to go for dinner and they want to try red lobster, which i just kept my mental mind shut and said, "hey, whatever you guys want."  for some reason i have always avoided that place, thinking it was nothing more than an "upscale" version of long john silver.  well . . . we get there and the first thing i notice, is the 30 minute wait on a tues.  then the next thing i notice is that they have a zagat sticker on the door proclaiming "#1 in seafood."  then i notice the menu prices.  they were up there, way up there, almost as if i was in a dc place dressed nice for a wonderful meal.  then i noticed the food.  boring and over flavoured, very fat heart attack inducing and not presented in the way the menu makes it looks.  all in all, i almost fell on the floor at the total cost for the whole evening.  so, who in the fuck are you red lobster . . . and why do so many people think you are great?

well out here in the country where i live, there are three within a fifty mile radius of one another.  i live close to one and my parents live close to another.  they say "theirs" is packed every night of the week with a 10-45 minute wait everytime, and when i drive past the one closest to me, you can't even get into the parking lot, day or night.  maybe it is a redneck thing.  they do tend to eat things most other humans won't.

Sure, maybe in 1995 when you were young enough to pretend a cougar wanted you.

But what about in 2010?  ;)

When I was in Art school, we were constantly taught that the general populace knows nothing about art. Apparently, they know nothing about good food either.

Walky, I've noticed the same things about those dives. Suspect that it's the hypnotic trance of their tv commercials which make them appear good, if you like seafood (which I love). Then when you get there, you end up paying a premium for poorly prepared frozen flavorless blahness. I'd say, 'I don't get it either' except that I do, though I hate the place. The masses have been suckered in by 'power of suggestion'. That's the only thing that makes any real sense.

If that's wrong, than my art teachers were right. They really don't know anything about the finer things in life.

That's just crap they tell untalented artists to help boost their self esteem.

Kind of like telling an ugly person that "real beauty is on the inside."

No. It's based on the premise that one must understand the basics of art to understand Modern art. It does make sense but too difficult to explain within a simple post. For anyone who wants any further understanding, go take a few good art classes. It's totally true with some Modern art; and then there is some that still looks like shit.
