What do people think of them as a live band?

I saw them on the "Live Through This" tour and thought they were pretty average.  Courtney tried to give the performance a sense of danger and unpredictability with her theatrics, but it came off as forced and not genuine.

Other than that, they just played their songs and didn't really add much to them in a live setting over what you hear on the record.

Given my previous experience and the $45 price, I'm going to pass.

Now that Courtney is part of the Hollywood elite, she thinks she's worth it and can get it... and probably will. That's not at all to say that she's worth it.

For some reason, I kind of get the impression that she's settled down a bit. Mind you, that's 'settled down' on the Courtney scale so she's probably still somewhat of a train wreck.

Would bet that the show will be full of canned theatrics. Not on a Flaming Lips level but more like formula Punk stunts and minor banter.

In the end, I'd bet all image with very little substance. Then again, the band have had a lot of time to hone their skills so maybe they will be a nice surprise.

Pretty much how I'd describe her entire career.

I was at that Hole show at WUST (ex 930 building). Madder Rose opened.

I thought it was great except for using her and Kurt's daughter as a prop.

Obviously current Hole is not the same band.. they are just hired hands...I wouldn't even call them a band. But back in 94 Hole was a band that had been playing for a while and in many ways they were excellent.

Of course Courtney turned into a joke or her wackiness began to color the way people viewed Hole.. viewed through that prism its very vogue to trash her but at the time she was touring behind an excellent album (I'm convinced Kurt wrote a lot of it) and the band initially was solid..

I wouldn't pay to see her today. But back in 1994 everything about Hole - heck even the b-sides were really cool (Covering Echo and the Bunnymen's "Do it Clean"! who else was doing that?)...

So what you are saying is that you don't think Courtney Love's hole will be as tight a unit as back in '94? You think Courtney Love's hole will be all loose and sloppy?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

(I'm convinced Kurt wrote a lot of it)

You may very well be right which would, in part, explain why we haven't heard anything since.

Az, all I can do is shake my head and laugh.  ::) ;D ::)

...and didn't Corgan allegedly write the follow-up?  Hole was always pretty much a cover band as far as I can tell.  And not a particularly good one.

If you actually thought up that comment in 1988, it would have predated 1994. Methinks it's more recently derived.

I'm there! I've never seen the original Hole live before but I've always liked their music.
If you check out youtube, you can see recent videos of her concerts. She's not a train wreck or doing anything that crazy. She's been just playing the songs. Her new band seems very professional and tight.

Courtney has been the victim of a lot of sexism. Everyone says Kurt and Billy wrote all her songs, like a woman couldn't possibly do anything good. Billy Corgan did co-write songs on Celebrity Skin, but Courtney made her contribution too.

I hope everyone puts aside their preconceptions and gives Courtney a chance. If you don't believe me, check out the recent videos on youtube for yourself.
