Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space
« on: July 26, 2010, 01:19:44 pm »
So,

Who else is making the trek up to NYC for the Spiritualized show on Friday?

If you are spending the weekend and looking for something to do, Sonic Youth is playing for free in Brooklyn on Saturday as part of Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park bandshell.  We're definitely going to hit that as well.

Also please fell free to express any general Spiritualized/J Spaceman love.

Remember the ending of the last 9:30 show when he smashed his guitar through his amp, negating the possibility of an encore?  I remember some roadies coming out and looking at it and just scratching their heads not knowing what to do.

<raises hand excitedly>

What all is going on after the show in NYC that night? I know the Gories are at Bowery and Gasland Killer is at Webster. Anything else?

Lots of free shows this weekend, as well as most weekends up here. Depending what time youre getting to Radio City - South Street Seaport has music going on (Avi Buffalo and others).

Sat at Summerstage: Jovanotti, Los Amigos Invisibles, & Natalia Lafourcade

The Pool Parties have a Block Party at Brooklyn Bowl

and so many other shows......

i've never listened to them or this album, but somehow i think i will like it.  is this one the only one worth it, or are there other goodies in their man bag?

Lazer Guided Melodies is a must-have as well as his last one Songs in A&E.

A good place to start might be the live record "Royal Albert Hall, October 12, 1997."  It is pretty much my favorite live album of all time.

Your non-digital music ways will be rewarded, as listening to it in a format where there are 2-second pauses between songs really sucks.  The transitions between songs are amazing.

One more thought, if you wanted to get a feel of them before buying anything, their last 9:30 show was broadcast on NPR and is archived on the site.

No self-respecting downloaded music listener puts up with 2-second gaps. ;)

I am flying out for this.  Also, if you want to hear a live version of a different era of the band I would highly recommend picking up Fucked Up Inside.  http://www.discogs.com/Spiritualized-Fucked-Up-Inside/release/415288  What are the chances that Dr. John shows up for this?

I wish I could be there. Making the trek to NYC is too much, but I've toyed with the idea of just doing it for a while now. I mean, fuck, it's J Spaceman. Instead, I'll probably just go visit my in-laws and see Interpol at the NorVa.

Now if this were Lazer Guided Melodies, I'd just camp out all week. :)

As for what to check out, I'd also recommend Amazing Grace.
