While it's easy to feel sorry for the parents, I can't imagine that there mustn't have been some bad parenting involved in both cases somehow.   

Unless the parents were financing his lifestyle, I don't really see how you can blame the parents on this one. In Chesser's case, he turned 18, became an adult and began making some stupid decisions. Maybe if his parents were paying his rent or something, that would be a bit of awful, awful parenting. But I don't think they were.

Some people just seem hellbent on fucking their lives up, regardless of good parenting growing up.

Turning 18 does not make you an adult. Nor 21. There are societal expectations of people when they reach those ages, of course, which are codified into law. But the realization of adulthood is much more complicated.

you know . . . he could just have something wrong with his mind.  finely tuned instruments dull after time, or maybe they never glowed at all.  i would say joining a movement based on a religion is a sure sign of it.  or believing you, a human, can do the work of a god, would thus be another sure sign.  or growing that beard.  definite sign.  i learned a long time ago, that when you join and believe in organized man made religions, you are doing the work of the devil without him even trying.  and yes, i know . . . but the devil is not a god.

why would you applaud this?  now he has plenty of time to recruit and join forces with others who will believe in any cause/join any group while in jail.  he'll come out from his small cell into one that houses countless followers.

i.e., they should have cut off his head and paraded it around in the street while shouting death to the middle east.
