Charlatans

Looking forward to finally seeing the Charlatans live! Their last couple albums have been disappointing, but I still think their live set will be aces. Any word on who's opening? If local, I would like to see (The Sounds of) Kaleidoscope up there. Another great band Shade makes a lot of sense as a support act for the Charlatans. They're a noise-pop outfit from Pittsburgh that draws a lot of inspiration from the Charlatans early material as well as the late-80's/90's Creation Records scene.

I actually think Up at the Lake is a great record, their strongest since Tellin' Stories. Simpatico is OK, doesn't suck but it's not brilliant. Hopefully they will still close with Sprosten Green. I saw them back at the 9:30 when it was still the WUST Radio Music Hall. It was the Up To Our Hips tour and they did an incredible show. Martin Blunt had on a shirt with the Adidas logo (in green marijuana leaves) that said BLUNT in big letters underneath it, and everyone went crazy when he came out on stage. It was a fun time.

I've quite liked most of their recent albums....not great but not terrible....Try Again Today is one of my guilty pleasure songs.....as is I Just Can;t Get Over Losing You from Wonderland I think
 
 the new stuff on myspace isn't really doing it for me though....I'll probably pick up a copy anyway

I have some pretty cool rare Charlatans stuff. I really love my Isolation promo CD that I found at a record fair once, and then the Beggars Banquet guy tried to take it back from me but I wouldn't let him. That's live from the Metro in Chicago, Feb. 1991. They do a fantastic version of "Happen to Die" on there.

Anyone going to the show? Simpatico has some decent songs...would sure love to hear anything from Up To Our Hips, Some Friendly, Between 10th and 11th, Up at the Lake, or Tellin' Stories though. Those are the best LPs IMO.

I saw them before at the Fillmore and at Bimbo's in SF...both lackluster and forgettable shows.

did you catch them at the NYC show? that show was awesome! except for the fact i have bruises all over the place. oh well. was an awesome time. ive been looking for the setlist, so this is perfect.
