On the topic of the healthcare act: http://www.balloon-juice.com/2012/06/29/just-a-humble-tradesman-trapped-in-a-world-he-never-made/

Still the wrong thread.  Why doesn't someone start a various random thoughts thread?

regarding the upcoming Swans tour:

"for some reason we are going to do this song (coward) on upcoming tours. we're rehearsing it, changing it (of course), and it's sounding good... also new material from new album will be played, as well as new as yet unrecorded material... no other old swans songs except coward."

That's fine with me. The new stuff holds up great live and you can't blame the guy for wanting to move on and focus on it almost exclusively.

I only got into them recently and still have only heard "My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to the Sky".  So, what other albums are must haves?

I'd start with White Light from the Mouth of Infinity and Love of Life.
Then Soundtracks for the Blind. Then work my way back through the 80's material.

"Various Failures" is also a good entry point (and I don't usually recommend compilations/b-side collections, but this one is good).

Great Annihilator but I'd start with Various Failures if you're new to them.

It's been said before on here, but it needs to be said again: it's seriously hilarious how anemic the Fillmore Silver Spring's schedule is.

as a montgomery county resident, please remind me how many of my tax dollars went to subsidize this state-of-the-art performing arts facility, which was to attract the most cutting-edge and sought-after artists in order to provide superior entertainment options for the citizens of MoCo and generally serve the public interest?

yeah, thanks.  and yes, i WOULD like a public inquiry into this debacle - why thank you!

Are they selling tickets though?  The handful of shows I've been to there were all quite full, but I'll admit I have no idea who most of the bands on the schedule are.  I have no idea how well they draw.  I'm sure LN and the MoCo government don't care who's playing, as long as people are showing up and not causing riots.

I wonder if they're having a hard time getting better acts because of being outside of the city?  I've seen a few acts at Strathmore who made jokes about playing "Washington DC Area."

Why would this be the case?

re: Fillmore.  At the Opeth/Mastodon/Ghost show in May, they were handing out tickets to the Meshuggah/Baroness/Decapitated show a few weeks later.  Both shows were face value $25, and both shows felt pretty full, but I guess they were having trouble selling tickets to the second show.

Also, at Meshuggah, someone in the audience mentioned that they were handing out tickets to the Danzig show a few weeks later, but I didn't see that myself.
