Velvet booking has been on a downward spiral since Snailhook stopped booking it regularly in 2009.

Which is a shame because that stretch between 06 and 09 was amazing for a venue of that size.

Velvet Lounge and State Theatre are the two venues that completely crapped out in the face of newer venues and competition

I don't think the Velvet Lounge are even trying to compete for nationally touring acts anymore. So much of what DC9 have been getting in the last few years would end up at Velvet if they put forth some effort.

I'm older now. That should be enough, for me not to like it.

There is a ton of fluff in social media, but Twitter is incredibly useful. It's not about Tweeting...it's about the substance of what you decide to follow. It's easy to get a rich Twitter feed and absorb information, whether it's news or hobbies. It can be useful at work too. I'll follow everything from Capital Weather Gang to AirFareWatchdog to the AV Club to Yoko Ono to BBC Travel to Matador Records. If you are interested in having a quick way to see what's happening in the world, it's marvelous.

I've found it useful along with other social media mediums but then I end up following too much garbage and it loses its usefulness. I need to cleanse my IG and twitter feeds of the random bologna.

It's easy to clean it up. I stopped following Huffington Post because they were totally obnoxious. Anytime someone feels compelled to Tweet the same link to an article more than twice, I deleted them from my Twitter feed. Annoying.

Lists people, lists.  That for me has become the absolute most effective way to use twitter.

I agree with everything Bearman said about twitter as I rarely tweet, but constantly absorb, except that I have utilized lists to filter my content.

Sounds good here too! Even on weekends, some headlining shows at 11:30pm is a bit late for me. But when I see 7pm set times at some shows, with driving from Baltimore, that has to be the worst option.

the later the better for me... i like to help put the kids to bed, have dinner at home...also, the later the show the quicker I can zoom in for the show... also, parking is much harder before a certain hour....its almost all zoned as neighborhood residents parking only until 9 i think...also, i like to have a few beers before i enter the venue ..the earlier the show the harder that is...also, if i have time to kill before 9 i like to go to the record store on the same block: SOM..

but its not much of an issue as they dont' get too many shows I'm interested in....

Jon Spencer coming up in April..

on a related note I recently bought Gray Matter's first LP... one of the labels is actually a picture of a cat.. hilarious to see the picture of Dante... the "thank yous" are like a who's who of DC hardcore royalty...

so yes Astrophysics is kind of pushing the envelope on being mathematics...but there is a lot of math in all physics

if you think astrophysics is only kinda-sorta math, you've clearly never studies astrophysics.
