Just Announced Commentary - 2011 Edition

I initially avoided Feelies because of their atrocious name, but after hearing a couple songs, I started avoiding them based on their music (I also wasn't able to get into Yo La Tengo or Belle and Sebastian, two other forum favorites, based on just a few songs).   Is there a particular Feelies album or era, that I should check out?  I try to give everything a chance (but sometimes when I do not like the first couple songs I hear by a band, I give up on them)...

I would imagine there are zero bands that are universally loved on here.

well everyone should hear crazy rhythms... herky jerky....at times you can hear Luna in it so much its kind of crazy...

the second one, the good earth, is different..a different band in  a way.. coming like six years after crazy rhythms...but its great...gentler though...

they have no bad albums..time for a witness is great too....

I've always been partial to The Good Earth, although I think most people would say Crazy Rhythms is their best.  I thought the last one - Here Before - was phenomenally good.  Only Life has some great tracks but overall feels like they were trying a little too hard for the radio-friendly "college rock" sound.

Nice, I get to see him without schlepping out to Jammin Java. Funny to think how often I used to go to Iota, now I go maybe once a year, they used to get so many good shows back in the day.

Ditto. Anybody know what happened? Was booking the "name" acts not a profitable venture and thus they're now just sticking with mostly local stuff?

Iota is just horrible now... they never book anything.. I don't know why I bother checking their website... the three venues that seem to have given up the past few years are Iota, the State Theatre and the Velvet Lounge...seems like they just can't handle the competition or something...

I think iota simply realized they could make more money by becoming just another bro-tastic Clarendon drinking hole.  This year they started joining the organized and ticketed "bar crawls" that plague the neighborhood several times a year (e.g., www.clarendonhalloweencrawl.com ).  Too bad.  They had some great shows there.

the Donovan show said there were tickets from 35 to 75$... i'm only seeing 55 and 75...

maybe they sold those out the first hour?

anyways doesn't much matter... for 35$ I might have gone....but $55 plus charges

Yeah. Not only is work a bitch that time of year, but middle of the week at Merriweather means I probably can't go. I'm thinking of catching them at MSG. Preferably a dark venue.

the inside of the pavilion is pretty dark.  get a good seat and you'll be able to enjoy the light show just fine come 8 PM.  admittedly not ideal but it's not like this is an open-air festival.

preferable to patriot center... for me

Don't get me wrong I'm happy, was pretty bummed they skipped DC on their last tour
but MPP weeknight is always a pain for the NOVA residents
Has any one taken the 'rally bus' to MPP?
