Harvey Danger actually shifted their sound from guitar based to piano based and put out a really nice poppy album back in 2005.

Agreed regarding MC5. They're pretty useless to me beyond that one simple catchy song.

Thanks.  I'll have to check that out.  I actually like "Where Have All the Merrymakers Gone?"  Harvey Danger was just the first band that sprang to mind.

The MC5 earned their place among the greats more for their blistering live shows verses what was captured in the studio.  And seeing as even I am to young to have seen them live, passing judgement on this band based solely on their studio output is well what Brian thinks he does best. 

Closest I came to seeing them live was at a Rob Tyner tribute show, when the four remaining members played.

Anyone else at that MC5 / DKT show at the Black Cat in '04? It was one of the loudest concerts I have ever been to. Mark Arm singing for them was pretty killer. Evan Dando and Marshall Crenshaw both sang as well.

I like Harvey Danger too!

really good documentary. i was at bc in '04.  it is always funny how people say shows were the loudest that they have ever been to.  with bc's 4 pa spkrs, i do not think it can get too loud.  now with 930's new (2 yrs old?) 16 spkrs, that is another story.

Kevin Shields did "Kick Out The Jams" at the 9:30 club.  I'd assume that was a lot better.

I was...I thought it was pretty great.  Mark Arm was great.  I thought Evan Dando was a total dolt.  I've seen Wayne Kramer a few times.  He always brings it.

I don't remember it being overly loud.

I was in the second row of people near the right side of the stage and it was very loud, mainly the guitar sound. I remember thinking afterward how amazing it was that old guys could still sound like that. I have been to shows where the reverberations made people physically ill. This wasn't loud as that but my ears were ringing for quite a while after that gig.

What was MC5's one good song Brian Wallalalalalace? Because Kick Out The James is not their best.
