12:30 AM set time for Peter Murphy is absurd
« on: November 16, 2011, 10:48:34 am »
A 12:30 am set time for the headliner (Peter Murphy) is absurd and inconsiderate of concert goers.  I understand that the club needs to occassionally double up on shows for financial reasons, but still you gotta put the headliner on at a reasonable time.  I bought a ticket expecting a reasonable time.  Concert goers have to work in the morning.  What's next?  Three shows a night?  Final headliners going on at 3 am?  You gotta draw the line somewhere and this set time has passed it.

gotta admit i have to agree with TonyT...but the issue is there is one opener too many... thats why it goes on so late...

on the other hand I would personally love it...

but going on at 1230 means show ends about 2 am? that seems a bit strange

it is the godfather of goth though

don't let it bring you down TonyT..he put on a great show at the State Theatre ..

It's sort of a nocturnal paradox...

Since all of Peter Murphy's fans are vampires/goths, it only seems right that he'd be playing the late show.

Then again, maybe somebody named "Owl City" should be playing the late show.

Both SWR and Peter Murphy will be playing 75 min sets so yeah, the show will be over close to 2am.  Did you not see the doors open at 10pm time when you purchased your tickets? That would have been a red flag that the show would be a late one. I'm not sure why you're blaming the club for being "inconsiderate to concertgoers."  Are you some crotchy old man Tony??? I do agree that it would be nice if the headliner was on at midnight instead of 12:30 but...

Remember when you were younger, and you really didn't care about staying out late on a work/school night? Sure you dragged a little the next day at work, but big deal, you had a fun night.

That's what tonight is about...

Initially only two bands were listed.  Doors open at 10 implied to me that SWR would go on at about 10:15 and PM about 11:30.  I would not have complained about that.

Do opening acts generally go on 15 minutes after doors?  I thought it was more like an hour.

When there is a late show, I have noticed that the support bands do hit the stage fairly quickly after the doors open.

When you have two bands "Co-Headlining" a tour, there usually will still be a support act (not including any local/regional opener)

Hussle Club sounds rather interesting for a support act...their cover of The Cult's "She Sells Sactuary" sounds like it was done by The Sisters of Mercy right down to the bad drum programming :D

I have to admit I did a double take when I saw the set times; I wasn't too pleased either.

As others have noted, I think the problem is that there are two co-headliners rather than just one headliner.  It's been a while since I've been to a 9:30 Club show with 10 p.m. doors, but my recollection is that usually the opener would go on at 10:30 and the headliner would go on at 11:30 and be done by around 1.

I'm thinking about taking a disco nap and then arriving at the club maybe around midnight.

Right; I was just comparing tonight's set times to my recollection of "usual" set times for 10 p.m. shows.

Cuing the fucking assholes who told me to find my own way home from a concert instead of expecting Velvet Lounge to put on their headliners before 11:30pm.
