Morrissey claims Johnny Marr now owns “100 per cent trademark rights and Intellectual Property” of The Smiths name – and can tour as band without him

How can this be true? Marr left the Smiths in 1987 and they didn’t break up when he left.

Marr just clarified the Smith trademark issue among other things, seem like Morrissey need to some publicity...

In terms of the trademark issue, Marr said he only discovered that the Smiths did not own their name after a 2018 “attempt by a third party to use” it. Afterwards, he contacted Morrissey “via his representatives, to work together in protecting the Smiths’ name. A failure to respond led Marr to register the trademark himself. It was subsequently agreed with Morrissey’s lawyers that this trademark was held for the mutual benefit of Morrissey and Marr. As a gesture of goodwill, in January 2024, Marr signed an assignment of joint ownership to Morrissey. Execution of this document still requires Morrissey to sign.”

Technically Moz isn’t lying when he says Marr owns The Smiths trademark, he just left out the pertinent details

It’s just amazing that such a big band doesn’t even bother to secure their name.

One wonders if Moz had been the one to secure the name if he would have used it as leverage regarding a reunion:”listen Johnny boy if you don’t want to do the reunion I will do it without you..”

No matter what rights Marr gave Moz for sure it strengthened his hand…

Don Letts' memoir talks a lot about that Jamaica trip.  I never realized how much Lydon loved Reggae/Dub.  Made me look at early PiL in a different light.

Looks like a change affecting all streaming services is happening October 1st which will result in certain titles being removed. According to Qobuz this "will affect a minimal amount of titles" being removed. 

Qobuz is sending out to their customer lists of affected titles they have purchased and saying to download them or lose access to them.  Based on the lists I'm seeing there is no obvious connection as to why they would be pulled i.e. no specific label, genre

So looks like if you made any purchases for iTunes, etc it's best you make sure everything is downloaded...

I'm sure hutch will be seen rubbing his hands to gather, when the bellyaching starts when people's playlist get messed around.
