The winner of the fan vote basically gets one more "real" vote, right?  That's how I always understood it.  It really has no influence on the outcome at all.  It's basically an effective marketing ploy.  Phish will get in eventually - and I have no problem with Bad Company or Chubby Checker getting in.  I had assumed CC was already there and Bad Company was one of the biggest bands of the 70s.

One real vote out of 1200 is what I heard.

There is absolutely no fuckin’ doubt Phish should be in the RRHOF.

Along with -to some limited degree DMB -they took the whole jam band thing to stratospheric heights.

Think about all the jam bands that have followed.

Yes, I can hear the guffaws, that’s a lot to answer for! But if a music act is incredibly successful and influential I think that’s enough to get in regardless of one’s own opinion of the greatness of the music. And anyways I think up to about 1998 Phish music was quality.

But that’s the main criteria in my mind:

Popularity or success
Influence
Quality

I view influence as the most important. But if you have influence and popularity or influence and quality you should get in. The Velvet Underground, for example, are in because they had influence and quality even if their records all stiffed. Grand Funk was simply popular so they don’t get in.

It’s hard for me to understand the Chubby Checker induction. He helped popularize a dance craze but that’s about it. But am not opposed to him getting in. It wouldn’t have bothered me if every nominee but Mana had gotten in.

This is one of those arguments akin to “well, actually Hitler should win Time Magazines Person of the Year! Who had a bigger impact?”

edit: space saw him at Iota
actually I don't think he did, but I did

and you are not wrong about the 24 albums he's released in the last two decades, there are a few gems...but very few
why can't he just do like ween or billy Joel

To clarify, I didn't get into the Ryan Adams show at Iota. It was sold out. But I watched some of it from the front window.

I did see Whiskeytown play a free show at a record store in Chapel Hill. The later a show in Raleigh and even later a show with Fastball at the Bayou in Georgetown.

Thank you for your time. If anyone has an extra for Sharon Van Etten tonight, let me know.

Sorry. To clarify, I'll pay anything up to face. For SVE. Not Ryan Adams.
