Who had the return of quadraphonic on their bingo card?

I think this is the first time those records are available in a discrete 4-channel format that's not 8-track tape.
Quad 8-tracks presented albums as they were on vinyl: two distinct programs of tracks, i.e. sides. No ka-chunking in the middle of a song or rearranging the tracks. But 8-track quality still sucked.
Quad vinyl was never discrete. The "normal" stereo mix was in the grooves, then out-of-phase mixes were matrixed on a carrier signal (like radio) in the 40kHz band (depending on the quad format, of which there were a few competing and incompatible ones). The quad receiver then dissected and mixed these signals to put out four channels, with lots of crosstalk. Voila, quadrophonic music....
I know all this because my dad was a big believer in it.
