I figured you guys would have off today as it is a government holiday.  Do you work for one of the rural trash collection companies that are privately owned?

we get the same as yours + Good Friday.

we get paid if they decide to close down due to snow...I guess it's one of the benefits of being an exempt employee...and we don't ever make it up  ;D

I get the same days as you.  We don't close either but I can "work from home".  I prefer to come in as I like getting out of the house and I love driving in the snow.

i'm exempt as well..but somehow they have said they don't have to pay us if we don't want to use vacation time.

for example.....during the blizzard years ago when we had like 20" of snow..they said "office is open, use vacation time or don't get paid if you don't want to come in"

no one came in obviously...office parking lot wasn't even plowed apparently.  we had the option of not getting paid for a days work instead of using vacation time if we wanted to.

i'm not sure that's kosher with labor laws etc..but thats what happens

We didn't close during the blizzards either but they gave us the option to make up the time during a one month period.  Current boss is more liberal and we can just work from home during storm.
