This Sidehatch/Rhett dinner party blather conversation seems awfully cordial by our standards. Its a Monday, can't someone call someone else a son of a bitch and get things started? Geez.

It's funny, because I never get into arguments off of the internet. Other than the usual husband/wife bickering.

I mean, do you go around mocking fat women in real life?

Only the ones who advocate "Healthy At Any Size" or openly espouse fat logic. I think if you'd look a little closer, most of what I post is about people basically claiming "it's impossible for me to lose weight because of genetics/a medical condition" or people who advocate that all fat women are gorgeous (#EffYourBeautyStandards). I would mock fat men who do this but they do not seem to be similarly delusional with anywhere near the frequency as women.

Isn't the much bigger problem the fact that that society sets up a system that puts way too much importance on female appearance, and has far too rigid standards as to what is considered attractive?

No, people's feelings do not constitute a "much bigger problem" than the obesity and diabetes epidemic, and anyone who'd argue contrary to the clear science behind that is literally killing people. The fat acceptance movement should be shouted down from the rooftops by anyone who cares about other human beings or who have any concern in the economic holocaust this is causing in rising insurance rates and increasing numbers of working-age adults being taken out of the workforce (contributing to society) and into disability.

If you're so concerned about people's health and your insurance rates, why aren't you waging a similar online war against cigarette smokers?

Does anybody over the age of 10 even eat hot dogs? I don't think I've had one since I was a kid, even before I became a vegetarian.

Because there isn't a large (no pun intended) army of people today arguing that cigarettes are healthy and its impossible to stop smoking.

We have a restaurant in my neighborhood that's won "Restuarant of the Year" and gotten 4-star reviews (from local publications, not Michelin/Zagats obviously) and they just opened a spin-off restaurant that is all "fancy" hot dogs. Its really quite bizarre. Aside from that (and the occasional holiday cookout), I have not seen an adult eat a hot dog in close to a decade.

How "large" is that army? Until you brought it to our attention, I never even knew there was one.

Is quitting smoking any harder than given up unhealthy eating habits, if you've gotten to the point of tobacco or food addiction?

Other than higher insurance rates, what harm and nusiance do fat women do to society, especially compared to the harm and nuisance that is second hand cigarette smoke?
