I was at this show as well.  Couple weeks before Rush of Blood to Head was released. Coldplay never did a proper DC show for Parachutes (just HFStivals) so this was much anticipated.  There was something about the show that made the ‘intimate venue’ still feel like an arena. Like something super professional and removed.  Connection to crowd and the performance of the songs so polished and rehearsed.  They were ready to be huge.

if Setlist is accurate that ACR show was one of only 13 live performances in the US for them and what looks their only actual tour of four dates.. several one off NYC shows prior to 1985

which leads to this which was release today

A Certain Ratio - Live in America 1985 tour

out on streaming and bandcamp

https://acertainratio.bandcamp.com/album/a-certain-ratio-live-in-america

even a ship from the US option for this one... still not cheap

ACR continue their ongoing reissue campaign with Live in America — an essential artefact from the band’s career, capturing their summer ’85 US tour supporting labelmates New Order— then fellow Factory artists, now as part of the Mute family — across the East Coast and Canada. Originally released on cassette and sold at gigs, this rare gem is now available on CD and vinyl, complete with new artwork and sleeve notes.

Compiled from the standout performances of the tour, Live in America spans the band’s early years through to ‘Si Firmir O Grido’ — a track that was released a year later on Force — capturing ACR at a thrilling crossroads in their trajectory. The recordings were taken from five of the venues they played, Felt Forum: NYC, Opera House: Boston, Agora Theatre: Akron OH, Bismarck Theatre: Chicago and Warner Theatre: Washington DC.

If it wasn’t for Bernard Sumner I have to think ACR wouldn’t have ever played the US. After Ian Curtis died Barney learned a lot about synths working with ACR. There were all these acts Barney worked with like The Section.

That’s the thing people forget …Barney kept working to learn more for about a decade.

A Certain Ratio
quote from their website

their classic 1980 debut album The Graveyard and the Ballroom, while Moscrop considers it to be akin to “Brian Eno meeting Herbie Hancock meeting Television meeting Jimi Hendrix meeting Chic and The Velvet Underground in a dark alley”.

apparently this actually happened  ;)

methinks lou would have made this extremely difficult

Funny how they're all at different ages than what they'd be if this had actually ever occurred.
