Best way to avoid traffic for MPP mid-week
« on: May 29, 2015, 05:14:59 pm »
I know this has been covered again and again, but a quick search didn't get me anything useful, and it can't hurt to post the info for the umpteenth time.

So, I'm heading to Merriweather on a Thursday.  Best alternate routes from downtown DC to avoid as much traffic as possible?

THANKS

Getting out of DC is the biggest issue. Once out of DC, just take 29 the whole way up.

Not sure where you live, but might be worth leaving your car at Silver Spring/Forest Glen/Wheaton that morning, metroing out and then driving up.

Edit: If you're driving out... take 11th the whole way until it turns into a one way, make a left to 13th, take 13th to Military, Military to 16th, 16th to Georgia Ave, then get to 29.

I live and work near metro center (in fact live on 13th St), so I've little choice but to find a way out of the city.  Of course I have an insane work week, not sure when I can hit the road.

THANKS for advice!!

Here is the best way to avoid traffic into Merriweather from 29...

Take 32 towards Clarksville.
Pass 29 and take the Sanner Road/Cedar Lane exit.
At the light, turn right onto Cedar Lane.
Go through 2 lights.
At the third light, take a right on hickory ridge road.
This road ends at the entrance to Merriweather. On concert days/nights, you can't go straight into the entrance, but you can go left and park at the mall.
I usually park across from Union Jacks, and go into Union Jacks for a drink, then walk over to the show. There are signs everywhere saying you can't park there for concerts, but I've never had an issue.

I have left tickets for people at the merriweather box office, but that was for free fest a hundred years ago. So hopefully they still do that.

nope.  the real question, technically, presupposes that you're already going there.

Jetpacks/gyrocopters also can help you avoid traffic
just have to watch not getting shot down by the airforce

- teleportation
- out-of-body travel
- becoming invisible with Klingon Romulan banned Federation cloaking technology
- magic spell that allows you to fly
- move the concert to your backyard

^ suggestions as useful as RB's "dont go there."

well if you use the cloaking on your car, you are still going to have to deal with traffic
but you could drive on the median and not get a ticket

first off, just corrected myself: it's the Romulans that have cloaking tech, not the Klingons.  mea culpa.

second, once cloaked, you can travel through matter.  this was the subject of a TNG episode - the Enterprise used romulan cloaking to travel through solid rock.  so a car with this tech could drive straight through the other cars, as if they weren't there.

edit: it wasn't romulan tech they used, but a banned federation cloaking device.  edited my previous post accordingly (again).
