Phaser

 who aren't so local anymore.
 (My very favorite!)
Sort of Shoegazey, guitar driven Rock with cerebral tones.
 __________

And The Carlsonics are pretty good Garage Rock.

If you are into loud, thrashing very hardcore Screamo, than I would recommend Black Eyes. (You just won't find me at their shows though.)

Me, however, you will.

 (Grammer wha?)

Anyway, if you want to know what DC's all about, check out the Dischord roster...Q and Not U, Black Eyes and El Guapo are all making some of the DC scene's most interesting music.  Q and Black Eyes are both arty punk bands, with the latter leaning more towards funk and dub.  El Guapo make indie dance music in the vein of Out Hud.

If you already know about these folks, and you're looking for something a little more out of the spotlight, check out the shows at the Warehouse Next Door, which always has interesting local punk, jazz, dub, psych...you name it.  Or get on the Planaria email list, at  Planariainc.com for updates on shows at the Warehouse and other small local venues.

Oh yeah, and Phaser rocks if you're into the shoegazey psych thang (thanks to Jag!).

paige, when I think about our love, I feel like I'm stuck with my head in a tire.  In a good way.

- Black Eyes aint for beginners.
  - Buy Fugazi's '13 Songs',it's a starting point for all your DC scenester-ship.

  - Shakedowns are pretty rockin'
  - Richmond is for drunks

oh yeah, I missed the whole 'reckerd stores' thread, just go to CD/Game Exchange, ya' know The Record Exchange. Don't support the RIAA, buy used music, smoke homegrown.

woah, i'm not a complete idiot. i've had 13 songs for quite some time, thanks. and all the rest of the fugazi. i stopped doing punctuation for a day cause Pariah said i didn't write in sentences but apparantly he thinks anything more than subject verb direct object is a run on or something.  sorry to take my point-making out on your eyes.  need more input! number 5 is alive!

Is Canyon a D.C. band? Not sure why I have that in my head, but if they are, they're a great D.C. band.

And Washington Social Club are great fun too.
