I cant believe some people still rely on DVDs for their entertainment, in 2016.

nice to see Arlington schools closed until at least Thursday but arguing they don't have to make up the days... some weird stat called "instructional hours".. they say they will meet that so they are off the hook.. nice to be a teacher and get a FIVE days off and not have to make them up.. in Arlington they got Thursday, Friday, Monday, Tuesday and will get at least Wed...

those fucking public school teachers have it MADE.  man, i would do ANYTHING to land one of those cushy jobs.  talk about a cake-walk!!!

 ::)

^what a stupid post.

yeah, its a cakewalk to get FIVE days off your job in one week and not have to make them up.. what else do you call it??
I have no problem with days off and being a teacher is as important as tough a job as there is.... but you have to make up snow days at the end.. sorry... 180-190 days of school a year for a kid is not that much.

perhaps I could have directed my post more at APS in general and not teachers per se.. .but fuck yeah it must be nice for them..

Small concession for low pay, hard work, lots of college loans and being despised not only by the kids you teach but by most republicans as well

Literally no one I know who just got a snowday (myself included) is expected to "make them up." You think I'm coming in on Saturday this week?

low pay is relative.. sorry man.. when you get 3-4 months off at a minimum every year due to winter break/summer vacation and you calculate income per days worked.. it ain't exactly minimum wage..... you might be surprised .. they might be making more than you on a per day worked basis.

but ok fine.. being a teacher is so horrible.. they make no money...everybody hates them (seriously? I hate my kids teachers?  who the fuck hates the teachers that teach their kids? I think most people value them more than their extended family members. ..even Republicans..i know i do.. i know i'm fucking counting on them for all my life is worth....the money we shell out every year on gift cards... multiply that by the entire class....come on now.its ok if they don't work because there is some snow.. WTF? I could easily have gotten my kids to school today but I guess no teacher could make it? give me a break.

lets teach kids the value of NO WORK. yeah, that's the ticket.

btw in NYC it snowed more than in DC in ONE DAY with no preparation because snow was not forecast to be that bad for the area and guess what.. schools were open on Monday.. but hey.

During the summer, many teachers are required to take classes, and many are required to earn at least a masters degree before getting a promotion/raise.

and Sidehatch, did everyone hate your parents? I bet they got a ton of pleasure and a big sense of achievement out of teaching kids and last time I checked your parents seemed to be doing allright..Didn't they retire when they were like 45? seems like it was just around when I met you 20 years ago or something!

This idea that teachers are hated and not respected is a myth. Iit is the teacher's union or organization that IS hated by Republicans and I don't know the ins and outs of that one but that is different from individual teachers) And while it may be true that teachers in less affluent areas get a raw deal it also can't be denied that teachers in places like Arlington, Falls Church and Montgomery County are doing pretty fine for themselves..or do you think our friends Enrique and Kristin are doing that terrible??? Seriously?

god the horror.. a Masters... a Masters these days is like toilet paper: necessary but pretty basic stuff.

Yes, I got my Netflix dvd, thanks for asking.
If I had to pick one, Netflix dvd or Netflix streaming, it would be dvd in a heartbeat. Streaming options are so limited, and Netflix dvd option is still so cheap, as long as you watch the disk the day you get it and send back the next day.

I used to be a teacher, but i think I'm better in my current career. You really have to have a talent for it to be a good teacher. I didn't. We did'nt love our daughter's kindergarten teacher, but the past three have been pleasantly excellent. I have no beef with teachers, they earn every dollar they make, and dexerve a little bit more.

And I just had a damn good flight of beers at Whole Foods for $8.

DC Brau Alpha Domina Mellis
Firestone Walker Double Jack
Lickinghole Creek Heir Apparent
Bruery Gypsy Tart

Tomorrow, I'm working No matter what.

Got Haggis?

my work was open today :/

although i only live a mile from it (and walk) so in reality bad weather can't stop me.  although it wasn't great having to walk in the street.

the president said we were open....then a few hours later the dean sent a message saying our school would be closed, students and staff don't have to report.....then a few hours after that  (after i had started drinking) a "corrected" message was sent saying classes are cancelled but staff have to report.  so on top of having to go after thinking we were off...i  have a hangover (burns night)

i'm guessing the president got pissed

Fairfax County just bagged it for the rest of the week.

At weeks end, they will have had 11 days of school in the last seven calendar weeks. And one of them was an early dismissal day.
