well, my time has come... about to start prep for my colo tomorrow.  i will re-read this thread in its entirety in case there is advice to be heeded (feel free to post your pro-tips below).  i raise my cup of low-sodium chicken broth to those who went before me.

You asked for advice too late, but hopefully you took the pills instead of the jug for assistance.

Hell yes...I got mine two days before Thanksgiving last year.

My wife has ulcerative colitis, so she's in the yearly colonoscopy club.  While I didn't find the process really too bad, she had a lot of good advice that made it easier.  Probably the best (along the lines of what vansmack said), was to eat a lemon italian ice while drinking the prep.  Take a small bit between sips really helped get the taste out of your mouth immediately.

I didn't really find the prep awful...it was less "tasted horrible" and more "tasted unpleasant".  I remember thinking that every third sip tasted different: one would be fine, one would taste like a bad kool-aid, and one would be extremely salty.

^^that's why you take the pill^^

Most GI docs automatically prescribe the jug because most insurance covers the jug vs. The pills, but i had to come out of pocket like $19, so kind of a no brainer.

I mean, I took a dulcolax to loosen things up, but no one mentioned a pill to me!

Honestly, it was all fine...my asshole hurt and I was tired, but plus side, I was ready to gorge on Thanksgiving, got out of a lot of pre-Turkey day work and got to binge some bullshit my wife won't watch with me at like 3am.  What's not to love?

Thinking of you, Sweets. If it makes you feel any better, I started a three-day juice cleanse myself today.

I've had at least two colonoscopies and have never taken a pill and don't understand why people complain about the prep. I really don't remember anything that bad about it.

At separate times in the past 15 years, I suffered a fractured rib, a lower back vertebrae compression, and a dislocated collarbone. Those were all far worse and much longer lasting than a colonoscopy prep. I would prefer a monthly colonoscopy schedule than having to endure any of those again (especially the first two.)

I have not had mine yet!!
I have been putting it off.  my current health provider has me doing the poop in a box first
My previous Dr didn't think to highly of that solution, but felt it was better than doing nothing

People... get a bidet on your toliet, could not be more hygenic
they are fairly cheap and even have heated versions for you wussies out there

As mentioned,  most docs just automatically give the jug because it's covered under insurance.

Yea, I've had a lot worse things than a colonoscpy,  but it's not enjoyable.

Poop in a box is pointless... as the youngest and spryest member of the forum, I'm not sure why this is something you'd put off doing. Fortunately or unfortunately,  I've been having them since my 20s.

I have not had a colonoscopy yet but I am willing to engage in a full on Japanese toilet conversation if anyone wants to jump off on a JA tangent.

I believe outside of perhaps some poster we know nothing about with 150 lifetime posts, I’m actually the youngest person regularly posting on here by several years.

but are you spry?

Also, I bought a bidet a while back and it's the best decision I've made in a long time.

Are you guys talking about the bidets they have in Europe that are separate from the toilet and have their own water connection?
