But then again a younger crowd will be more likely to try to take pictures....

I know a few boardies, your sidekick included who took pics at Dylan.

but it was not very noticeable...and did not distract....

I think it is about finding a balance....between the desire of the particular artist and interests of the venue and its patrons

some people have to be on call for their job or family

The phone still receives calls/messages and you can feel it vibrate in the pouch.  Not sure about Anthem, but other venues have "phone-zones" away from the stage where you can have the pouch unlocked to check your messages.

Honestly I don't have a problem with this, or at the very least ban photos/videos for all shows. Maybe because I'm an old crank now but when I went to the Spoon show the amount of phones out was insufferable. One dude was basically recording the entire show! I really wanted to smack it out of his hand. Like why are you even here, brah? Devices really detract from the performance when it's supposed to be about being in the moment.

I agree. I'm OVER the insane device use at shows. You want to take a quick pic? Fine. But, people should not be recording entire songs. I'm done with watching shows through other people's phone screens. It's hard enough trying to see when there's tall people in front of you! And people won't be respectful enough to just keep their phone in their pocket/bag.

Except at Savages....they actually did then. And it was glorious.I thought "ah, yes. THIS is what it's like when everyone just experiences something". It was nice.

Almost nobody got a pic much less video at Bob Dylan which is why I think “locking” phones is unecessary

This is quite possibly the worst example of all time, in any context.

It's like wondering why nobody is instagramming the Murder She Wrote marathon on the Hallmark Channel.

my 2 cents. i have no problem locking up the phones.
BUT, there are worse annoyances at concerts.

1/ drunkenness
2/ aggressive old dudes moshing
3/ incessant talking

Sure, though that's a space freely phenomenon regarding which I have no personal experience.

3/ incessant talking

The worst. Actually,  singing is the worst  but that doesn't seem to happen nearly as often.
