$518. 7th gen i5 with a solid state drive and 8GB ram.

$699 8th gen with a solid state and 16gb RAM customized.

Either one of those computers will literally whip a llama's ass if it's just getting used for Office/web/youtube.

At $2k, a family of four can all have their own laptop. $2k for a single computer for a home (read: not for specialized work) user that doesn't play some sort of video game that requires a graphics card is full on coo-coo bananas.

I like the Lenovo Yoga ThinkPad. Durable, folds into a notepad, and has the nipple.

As a desktop option for someone who refuses to go refurbished and insists on having some absolute computing beast, here's a $700 computer that is more than any average user will ever need computing wise:

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Optiplex-790-SFF-Desktop/dp/B075SLN39R/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1546962374&sr=1-3&keywords=desktop+computer&refinements=p_n_feature_five_browse-bin%3A13580790011%2Cp_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A2289792011%2Cp_n_feature_two_browse-bin%3A562240011%2Cp_36%3A-100000%2Cp_n_condition-type%3A2224371011

Throw a giant monitor on that and you're home at $850 and even at that price, its a waste of money because its too much computer.

DO NOT SPEND $2K ON A GENERAL USE COMPUTER.

indicator that you might be a good candidate for a Apple product...concern with outside appearance of a desktop computer

I've actually, remarkably, been extremely magnanimous and helpful in this thread as I oversee a department that buys tens of thousands of dollars in computers annually but at this point I can only assume a fool and his money will soon be parted.

Apple consumer devices (iPads, iPhones) are perfectly fine. Dropping $2k on a computer because its pretty to surf the web is literally taking one's money outside, dousing it in gasoline, and setting it aflame.

Buy 4 iPads and that desktop I outlined if you're so intense on spending $2k on surfing the web -- at least then your whole family has stuff to play on PLUS a desired computer.

Maybe I will just buy myself another laptop I can destroy...

I was actually excited about buying an iMac but now I am crushed

Thanks guys!!!

Apple is nothing more than a luxury brand company these days.  I never I thought I would see the day where Hutch was pushing for a luxury good and Julian opposed to a luxury good.

All I ever wanted was a measly upgrade for the Taiwanese Apple II+ clone my dad bought us in 1983....but that was just too much to hope for...

Hey, as long as we're talking computers here, any insights on getting a kick-ass gaming computer? I'm about to come into some sweet juicy settlement money, and I've decided that this will be my one fun purchase, along with a new dryer.

I have no knowledge of computers and emails and internets and shit, so I'm getting one pre-assembled. But all the varieties of graphics cards is daunting and I'll probably need a lot of memory because I often like to smoke weed.

i've become a fan of Lenovo.  i paid something like $1300 for a gaming laptop 2 years ago and the thing runs really fast, the extra warranty was cheap, haven't had a single problem with it.

for your browsing/Word/email needs you could get something in the ThinkCenter or IdeaCenter families of desktops (including some all-in-one models where the guts of the computer are behind the monitor).

Which word? Magnanimous means "generous, especially towards a less powerful person". Helpful?

let's give Jules his due: despite his known dislike for hutch, he went out of his way to help him.  seems relatively magnanimous to me.
