Midlake's "Roscoe" is hands-down my favorite song of this year.

Halfbeat by Halfby.  Same style as whatever Go Team is, but sillier

Pretty much anything by Incubus, I'd say.

Without bothering to give it much thought...

The Daysleepers - "Stars On Fire"
Hammock - "Black Metallic" (yes, a Catherine Wheel cover)
Fleeting Joys - "Go And Come Back"
Hearts Of Black Science - "Driverlights"
Tearwave - "Lotus Flower" (though it hasn't officially be released yet)
Raymond Scott Woolson - "Selina's Bonfire"

I'm going to add "Lazy Eye" - Silversun Pickups.

I didn't get this album until a few days ago.  Big mistake - I've been missing out!

Agree.  I've gotta check the release date of the EP with Kissing Families, because I think it's '05.  If so, Lazy Eye will be my Silversun Pickups choice.

this album really isn't doing it for me ... 'roscoe' and 'head home' are nice, but the guy's voice is REALLY annoying

I just got it today ... and WOW, these guys are really good ... i haven't heard such a solid fusion of a "modern rock" sound with "indie rock" in a long time ... i could see them making it big, they have an interesting but accessible sound and can really write hooks and songs

all the smashing pumpkins comparisons i've seen are right on point ... maybe the sound isn't exactly the same, but they're doing the same thing the pumpkins did in the early 90s:  take ideas and sonics from indie rock and make them accessible with arena type songs

 ok, enough gushing

From albums I just downloaded or revisited I'd add to my list

 Destroyer - Looter's Follies
Joseph Arthur - enough to get away
The Evens - Cut from the Cloth

haha.  you guys are great.  yeah, the Pickups are great, and i hope they dont go the way of the last few bands i was totally wicked into the last couple years (bloc party, wolfmother, bravery) and turn into megastars and i wont be able to see them in small venues and such. (though i did see all 3 in tiny places...once).

i was totally pissed when i missed their first appearance in August as i was in chicago, then was out of town for the 2nd one. argh.  i WONT go see them at DAR...hopefully a coachella appearance looms.
