In VA, the Dems have all the statewide elected positions (governor et al), both halves of the legislature despite heavy historic gerrymandering to their detriment, and both Senators. A GOP member has not won a statewide election in VA since 2009.

I’m hardpressed to agree VA is “more Republican” than MD (a state with a GOP governor). Both are very, very blue in the year 2020.

Ok how about the fact that outside of NOVA, Richmond and VA Beach?

Does that work?

And Charlottesville and Roanoke.

A city/rural divide is how every state works including the most liberal ones of all (eg California). Hagerstown and Cumberland and Ocean City aren’t exactly bastions of liberal thought.

Wow VA and MD seem to be going in different directions

MD 338 new cases 13 new deaths
DC 624 new cases 25 new deaths

(DC trends correlate more with MD as always)

I noticed this trend starting to take shape earlier this week

Without specific VA county data it’s hard to know why... VA is a more Republican state.. I have been in two stores recently where people were not wearing masks...I won’t go back to any stores that don’t enforce mask regulations. Unfortunately for me one incident took place at CD Cellar. Guess I will be saving me some money!

Did you forget to include the VA data?

As Spring turned to summer Virginia made a run at Maryland and should be overtaking it in terms of total covid cases within a week!

Go team!

Whatever helps you sleep at night!

You can look at it any way you want...VA, for example, tests less than MD and you know what that means!

not sure how it helps with my sleep, but a state that has almost 50% more people makes it hard to do comparisons on just a raw number count

This was meant as a sarcastic comparison to sporting events...the Fall Classic is the World Series....usually the team with the most runs in a game is considered the winner..or the one who wins the most games

I am not sure I would say VA has responded better than MD or DC. Yes VA has far less deaths so far but MD happened to be closer to the world’s number one covid hub so far...NYC. Also you would need to look at the health of the people of each state going into pandemic..ie preexisting conditions which lead to higher fatalities...in addition Maryland has torched VA on testing...Overall I kind of prefer Maryland’s performance under Hogan to VA under Northam ..Hogan procured tests from a South Korea, he has challenged the Republican President and he just yesterday advised residents to stay in state something every state should be telling its people even if they just want to vacay and party at beach...this covid is serious and people should cut down on their mobility m..good for Hogan

With regards to those tests from South Korea, it appears it may have been a stunt...  Seen this info a couple times now

Del. Gabriel Acevero
@GabrielAcevero
Hi, Marylander here 👋🏾

The 500,00 testing kits
@GovLarryHogan
 purchased from SKorea for $9.5M were missing components and were readily available for purchase at a cheaper price right here in the US. It’s called a publicity stunt.

I've seen rumblings that Hogan wants to run for president and this all grandstanding on his part.
