Who owned the 1990s?
« on: June 08, 2020, 09:55:54 am »
This is the decade I should really know but going to have to think of two acts in addition to Nirvana...

Even though Nirvana was only around a few years they really set the table..

I prefer Blur but it’s hard to argue against the absolutely domination Oasis had in Europe for the majority of the decade.

yeah I'm definitely team Blur, but Oasis had a  bigger impact at the time.  and a lot of the Oasis vs Blur was defined by their roots working class verses art school, which is less important here than in the UK.

i want to add Ash \ Supergrass but neither of them rose to the level those two were.  Belle & Sebastian arrived a little late to rule the 90s.

Yes, because all of the bands above didn't own shit in the 90s.

Maybe Nirvana... But that was short lived.

I'll go with Dr. Dre and Metallica

I agree with Yada. Dr. Dre definitely for rap; there's be no Snoopy without Dre.  Metallica for rock. I'd say Pearl Jam for alternative.

I can't decide on the development of neosoul we saw in the 90's-Mary J Blige? Maxwell?

Minus the part where it’s Garth Brooks, yes. You could argue no one owned a decade of modern music MORE than Garth Brooks in the 90s. (I mean, you’d be wrong, it’s the Beatles and the 60s but you could argue it!)
