So you are admitting to being one of the board poors?

The reason I was hypothesizing about about how much a couple with an adjusted gross between 150K and 160K would get was because that's where our 2019 return ended up. We haven't filed for 2020.

We got a letter telling us how much we're getting for Stimulus #3 and saying we'd get it within seven days.

However, I plugged the same numbers that gave me the correct amount of previous partial-stimulus money for Stimulus #2 into the Stimulus #3 calculator, and what the letter said we're getting is less than what the calculator says we should be getting.

But you can't really quibble about the amount of free money you're getting, can you?

We're getting our deck refinished, although we'd do that regardless.

Going to Charlottesville for a night for my birthday/Mother's Day weekend. Note: Ask Walkie for some recommendations from his recent trip, though won't be going to Trump winery.

umm, I pretty much bring up how broke I am and how expensive everything is on a daily basis, so not sure how that is surprising

Good investment, we've had ours for over 15 years at this point and love it

If you're buying concert tickets for more than a few shows a year, you're not broke.

Without delving into specifics of anyone

Some people use the cover of saying “I am broke” as a rationale for being stingy or for just not spending money...or for hoarding money... my father was like this...

It’s a fine line....a human being can convince themselves of anything.. we easily become pathological

A person could live in Monte Carlo and think to themselves “I am broke... my friends all have boats and I don’t”

Of course they would be lying to themselves

And for some people, saving is not the same as hoarding.

It’s not the same...

But what about a person who doesn’t have enough money to send their kids to school cause he would rather “save” money?

Is that “saving” or a good thing?

He is hoarding - a bad thing- under the guise of saving - a good thing

By sending the kids to school, do you mean college, or private elementary/secondary school?

What if someone (not me) could only afford a retirement account or a college fund for kids, but not both? And they choose the 401K. Does that make them a hoarder?

In this specific case my dad was serving overseas and the Argentine government gave him an education allowance to pay for his kids international private school (we couldn’t go to Japanese school) and he convinced himself we would be leaving soon, pocketed the money and kept us home for a year.

That’s hoarding

I don’t believe your example constitutes hoarding. I don’t believe you or anyone I know is a hoarder... other than my father I guess..if he is still alive

I agree with your example. Sorry that happened to you. You really don't know if your father is alive? That's my second "wow" of the day.

Well I assume he is..but he has lost his mind and lives alone in Argentina and covid and last time I called him about six months ago I got real angry and hung up... there is a lot of pent up anger..long story

I will swallow my pride and call him March 24..his 82 birthday..

Obviously I am the only one of his three kids that still talks to him.. that has been the case for over 20 years

yes in a relative sense, yes I'm not broke
but spare discretionary income in 2021 is extremely thin and has been for getting close to two years
I run with very little debt (besides my mortgage) and own cars and stuff outright (no loans)

but that $48 I had to decide...I only have $250 this month to just spend on entertainment/beer/other fun stuff...do I spend it on that
And that was an easy decision

I used to have a bigger pool of discretionary fun funds...but those days are gone and almost every dollar I take in, is spoken for
It's not the best situation, and I feel pretty darn broke because of it
