2022 World Cup

World Cup starts in a week and a half

Argentina just lost one of its starters…midfielder Lo Celso…. Heartbroken

But

https://www.espn.com/soccer/blog-the-toe-poke/story/4795953/argentina-lionel-messi-predicted-to-win-big-at-world-cup

I fancy Brazil, Germany, France and Belgium’s chances more….

The US looks like a mess right now but maybe it all comes together in Qatar.

God, I hope not. Insufferable with all the bandwagon fans.

USMNT --> direct to the salt mines for reeducation.

the world cup takes on a new meaning this time 'round: my kids are finishing up their first season of soccer.  hoping that they get into the tourney and learn a little something from the world's best (and the USMNT, too).

i will of course be cheering for Canuckistan, in its first appearance at the WC since 1986.  we might even score a goal this time!!!  with croatia and belgium in the group the chances of making it out of the round-robin are very, very low.

any drop in my productivity during the WC will - i mean, would - be purely coincidental.

Senegal’s Mane -one of worlds best- out of Cup due to injury

Oh oh why oh why do they insist on playing club soccer until a week before WC? $ but what a tragedy for WC. Players either get injured or arrive tired and prone to injuries.

I took the week off.  2AM-11AM start times on the west coast are just not copacetic to working.

World Cup organizers to ban alcoholic beer sales at stadiums

Two days from the start!

talk about a bait-n-switch... from the outset, organizers were concerned about alcohol sales yet the Qataris assured - guaranteed - that it wouldn't be a problem, that they would work something out, just give the tournament to them and everything will be fiiiiiiiiiiine... woops.

i'd love to be a fly on the wall at AB InBev.  they must be having an absolute cow.  they have boatloads of kegs and cases that are either in-country or in transit.  not like there is another local destination they can offload those on... to not even talk of the lost revenue.  methinks they're going to have a word with FIFA about the $75 million they paid to be the exclusive beer vendor at the WC.

i'm surprised that riots haven't broken out in germany and england yet.

The new plan could create friction with Budweiser, which has sponsored the tournament since 1986 and pays tens of millions of dollars each World Cup cycle.
Between the lines: Beer will still be available in suites for FIFA officials and wealthy guests, the New York Times reports.

Other fans can purchase nonalcoholic beer in stadiums, soccer's governing body said.

So Jules will be able to get beer, it's just the regular fans who can't
I love how they act like nonalcoholic beer is a viable option if they don't have alcoholic beer

I mean when you are a guest in the Fifa suite, you don't have to face the field and can put a Moz concert on the insuite TV

The big question is who will score more? Canuckistan or USMNT? I'd go with Canuckistan, USMNT has looked terrible as of late, they'll be lucky to score 3 goals.

Pulling for Ecuador, personally. The bars on Conn Ave south of Dupont Circle are where all the Latin American fans hang out and they are a blast. I'm sure World Cup 2022 will be no exception.

Canada looks good!! The US looks disastrous

FIFA boss is a disgrace

https://www.espn.com/soccer/fifa-world-cup/story/4806508/world-cup-fifa-president-infantino-slams-europe-hypocrisy-in-astonishing-speech

Anyways less than 24 hours to kickoff

The worst thing is how the European leagues played until a few days ago! No break for players so many are injured. All about $

Benz Ema is hurt. Mane missing cup and dozens of other examples. Sad. Teams usually have a month to get ready for WC and in this case a week or less.
