And Canada caves…..
sure aboot that?what exactly did canada have to give up? "increased border security" via a $1.3B investment. in late 2024, canada announced an border and immigration investment of... $1.3B. canada got trump to back down by waiving in front of his face something that they were already doing. oh, and trudeau will name a "fentanyl czar"

trump is the one who caved: after he saw the uproar & someone finally explained to him the consequences of his actions, he needed an out. he'll claim that promises of canada doing what is was always going to do is somehow a win. his followers will swallow it without question, bask in his glow, then move on to the next manufactured crisis.
also, fentanyl doesn't enter the US through canada so 100% interdiction will have zero effect:
The vast majority of fentanyl seized at U.S. borders comes from Mexico.
In 2024, more than 21,100 pounds of fentanyl was seized by U.S. authorities on the border with Mexico, compared to only about 43 pounds seized at the Canadian border. (

also, WAY more fentanyl enters canada from the US, then enters the US through canada. gee, who's the real problem here?
so, to recap:
- trump got nothing new
- trump went on the anti-fentanyl warpath against a country that doesn't contribute to the problem
- trump "solved" a crisis he created - brilliant!
finally, last week trump claimed the tariffs were about the "unfair trade deficit", but is now claiming a victory on fentanyl... where did those goalposts go?!?
