Am convinced none of this is about savings and many will be rehired or replaced at a higher cost.

It’s about appearing “tough” and anti-government. It’s all for show. All for playing to the deplorables.

Meanwhile it will- along with tariffs and general incompetence- help tank the economy which has to be intentional. A recession better now than before midterms? They can blame recession on Biden? Not sure what the rationale is

I agree with your take
although the damage they do to the economy with all this will definitely not be gone by 2026
but makes sense to feel all the pain very early as people have such short memory and will be like "remember we used to call it gulf of mexico"

Maybe they will use the recession to go crazytown on Medicare and social security? I don’t know …it has to be on purpose though…

Maybe they figure a recession will lower prices and lead the Fed to lower rates?

Imagine Hutch posting this:

Zelensky caves

details of the deal haven't emerged yet, so let's not pre-judge.  at a minimum it'll be better than the exploitative deal that was initially proposed... the new deal might only be 90% exploitative.  yeay.

Ukraine has to sign some sort of a deal with the US, even if the EU came in with a more generous (read: vaguely reasonable) offer.  the only thing Ukraine wanted out of a deal is security guarantees.  the new deal still doesn't appear to contain any per se, but at least by getting the US directly involved in Ukraine's economy the hope is that trump will be incentivized to protect his new cash cow.  many (most?) of the resources are in the occupied territories, so it would be in trumps economic interests to liberate those areas from the rooskiyz.

also: i'm not convinced this deal will hold in its initial form, in the long run.  TBD if Ukraine renegotiates with a less imperial administration, or does a dine-n-dash once, the war ends... it's not like other countries haven't screwed over Ukraine via treaties and deals (RE: Budapest Memorandum, Minsk 1 agreement, Minsk 2 agreement, etc.).

normally I'm not a fan of drug tests or Rep Luna
https://citizenwatchreport.com/rep-luna-proposes-mandatory-drug-tests-for-all-members-of-congress/

but this would be funny, I mean they would have weeks of notice, so who would actually get caught

The proposed plan would involve regular, random drug testing for all members of Congress. The tests would be conducted by an independent third party to ensure impartiality and accuracy. Members who test positive for illegal substances would face disciplinary actions, which could include suspension or expulsion from their positions.

@ProjectLincoln
Cannot believe she's attacking the GOP like this.

whoa, the VP has some opnions on this matter

@JDVance
During my senate campaign in 2022, I met a Ukrainian-American man in NE Ohio. He was very angry about my views on the conflict, and my desire to bring it to a rapid close.

"You are trying to abandon my country, and I don't like it."

"Sir, I replied, "your country is the United States of America, and so is mine."

I always found it offensive that a new immigrant to our country would be willing to use the power and influence of their new nation to settle the ethnic rivalries of the old.

One of the most important parts of assimilation is seeing *your* country as the USA. It's part of the bargain: if you're welcomed into our national family, you ought to look out for the interests of the United States.  I know many immigrants who have the right perspective, and I'm grateful to them. For example, I met many Ukrainian Americans during that campaign (and since) who agreed with my views, or at the very least, asked the right question: what is in the best interests of the United States?

this shock and awe is gonna do me in

Last night, House Republicans passed a budget blueprint to cut Medicaid by $880 billion.

Virginia is expected to see the second largest decline in enrollment. Nearly 700,000 Virginians could lose healthcare if Virginia's expansion is reversed.

I think thety are ok with losing the midterms.  Every party wins some and loses some.  It will be near impossible to get these jobs back.  I assume the recession is intential so they can buy their stocks 'at the dip'
